Re: Dear Teachers........
Here is the COLD HARD reality. We get paid for 10 months of work. We dont get 12 month salaries. They simply take our salaries and spread them out over 12 months. Some teachers work two jobs to put money in the bank and some DO work during the summer as well. I am one of those teachers. I do what I have to do for myself and now with and for my husband and our future.
Personally, you will never hear me complain about making less than my corporate counterparts because I knew what I was getting into when I became an educator. Not all of us do it for summers off. We do it for the love of children.
Just remember, we are highly educated professionals (mandated by law) who are responsible for the immediate educational and social-emotional well-being of CHILDREN for up to if not more than 6 hours a day. I don't ask for more money. A little respect, however, would be appreciated. Thanks.

If it was a joke than I apologize, but you have to realize that some of us are just tired of having to alwaysjjustify our jobs all the time when we work SO hard. Maybe you should have clarified the joke in your orginal post as it is a senstive subject.

um, yes your jobs are super easy....grading tests, projects and essays, rallying unwilling, unruly kids off the playground to teach them 6th grade math in the 4th grade b/c the state tests are harder, parent-teacher meetings, little johnny who needs his meds before lunch or look out, little suzy who has another ear infection and will miss another week, the shy little girl who is from a poor family and barely has clean clothes let alone supportive family that you are responsible for turning into well rounded individuals with the smarts to change the world...yes, your jobs are super easy....NOT!!!!!
My great-grandmother, grandmother and aunt were/are all teachers...they did it for the love of children and it always touches my heart when I see a teacher who truly cares as opposed to ones who you can tell took the job for the scheduling....let's face it, some jerks fall through the cracks.
From meeting the LIW teachers last week I can honestly say that none of you seem in it for summers and $$$. Kudos to you all for your HARD ROCKin' work.

Cheryl, I think you forgot about the kid that yells FU and walks out of the room or the parent that calls you a moron because HIS kid cuts class.

I agree with Jen...
I dont find it funny at all and it really is annoying when we work so hard and people always have to make comments about how great we have it as teachers There is a whole other side to teaching that other people not in the profession dont see...

Re: Dear Teachers........
honestly, it didn't seem like she was trying to offend any of you guys.
I know teachers work hard. I have tons of them in my family. I know they do it for LOW pay b/c most of them work for govts, as do I.
I work for the Fed...I bust my butt every day like MOST people do when they work. I get a set amount of days off, like most people do... I don't make a ton of $$, and I don't even get MATERNITY leave
since there are a lot of teachers on the boards, there are a lot of posts about them...more so than any other proffession.
I understand that it may be a sensitive subject, but I think you can all say that Denise isn't a meanie, and probably would not intentionally offend any of you. It kinda seems like she hit a nerve, but I don't think she deserves all of this...JMHO.
so for all of us that work hard, the first round is on me!
