crashing.......

10% is AWESOME given the economy (my raise was 4% lol)

BUT how much should you be making per industry standard? is it like $5000 more than what ur getting? $2000? 10,000???

sometime u just have to pick ur battles.

Wow! I wish that I could get a 10% increase! The MOST my company will EVER give per policy, on an annual increase is 5% and that was even before the economy got really bad. I'd be thrilled, IMO. Congrats!

10% increase is amazing.. especially with this economy. My company gave out 3% last year and we were told to basically not expect anything this year.

I work in public accounting and 10% is a standard increase we get every year. Above 10% is great, 10% is average and less than 10% is not so good.

the %age increase you should expect depends on the type of job (industry)

Think about these things:
you have awedding coming up
the economy is terrible
can you afford to lose your job right now?
can they afford to pay you more money?

I would think these things through and then decide whether its best to speak with your boss.

Good Luck!!

unless you are severely underpaid by industry standards, I wouldn't say anything right now. 10% is a very large increase. Using the fact that you have a subpar boss is not going to get you anywhere. Remember, the people who put your boss in charge are the ones paying you. Unfortunately, they must have some level of respect for her.

If you are grossly underpaid by industry standards, wait till after the new year and start putting some feelers out in your field. The economy is in really bad shape but if you can sit tight, you will get your dream job.

I would def look up on a NY state webstie how much your position should be paid. If you are getting paid a large amount less then that, then I would probably bring that up to their attention. I think a 10% increase is great! I only get 5%... and we are supposed to be glad that we get that much. Before going directly to the big time bosses, I would go to a step below them...maybe your manager? ... With this economy it's tough... I would see if you can find any other job that is paying more then what you are getting paid now... but I would def hang in there as long as possible until the economy starts to get better. Best of luck...

I think that a 10% raise is wonderful but if your not happy and think that you can find a better paying job go for it.

But with today's economy just be careful.

I would be content with it.

Given the circumstances of the world right now, I would just graciously accept it. I'm overworked and underpaid too, and yes, 10% of my salary is pretty much just gas money for the year, but I would take it at this point. I haven't gotten an increase in over a year, and we have just been put on pay freeze, so I would be grateful that you're even getting a raise in this time, because most people are not.

Yeah - i got nothing this year - and usually it's way less than 10%. It made my crazy but then a LOT of folks got let go so now I'm just grateful.

I do understand why you are frustrated and say.

It can not help to ask. I don't think they would ever fire you for asking so the worst they could do is say no and then you can just committ to the job. I wouldn't threaten to leave unless you mean it b/c they could take you up on it.

omg that sounds like my life...i would be upset too....it is better than nothing though....i don't even think we are getting an increase this year or a bonus

10% is a pretty good raise for staying at your company. In order to get a 20-30% raise you'd most likely have to look for a new job. It doesn't sound like you love what you do, so it can't hurt to look around. If you get another offer for more $$, you can always leverage that to negotiate more at your current job if you really want to stay there.

like everyone else given the economy, and if you're not like SEVERELY underpaid, i might let it go...10% is a very good raise
