I don't know the facts on all of it, but also keep in mind that the derms do a lot of the same treatments and want you to keep coming to them so they get the money and not the spas.

i totally agree with this. I've been wanting to go to a derm for redness and capillary zapping but i'm not sure it's any better than going to bliss or whatever, just more $$$. I feel like a lot of them are bogus unless you have some serious problem with your skin (not just face/acne related)

Re: Dermatologist/Facial Question

i had wrote this in my facial review thread but here is advice she gave me to help with the breakout problem.

1-dont hold your cell phones against your face, it has so much bacteria and this causes those breakouts on your cheek

2-try to stay away as much as you can from caffeine, coffee, and also foods like pizza and chocolate

3-also so you know cycstic pimples are a sign of an infection, sometimes it can be something internally that you need to take pills for, she said shes gonna see how my skin is next time and if i get anymore she will see if this is the problem bc theres a pill to take from that.

4-Oil based make-up

5-also be careful if you put products in your hair and leave your hair down and around your face, if you have a breakout put your hair up and away from your face

6-clean your pillowcases frequently and obvious things like touching your face

Actually the derm was more affordable for me b/c he took my insurance. So, the glycolic peel/treatment and also him removing stuff from my face wtih a needle was only $20. So if your insurance covers it, it could end up cheaper than bliss.

The cell phone one would make SO MUCH sense for me - the cheek with the break out is my cell phone cheek!

Denise can you FM me her info again. I would love to go and see someone like this.

I don't have problematic skin (I know I am lucky). But it has become very dull and some minor breakouts. I know some of it is stress, my bad eating habits and no exercise, but I think some extra help is what I need.

I am not a fan of dermos for different reasons so someone like this could be just what i need!

I am also noticing laugh lines and all the other fun stuff that starts happening after 25!!!!!!!

Jess: Be careful with the Retin-A. I used it and it literally burned my skin off.

Re: Dermatologist/Facial Question

I am an esthetician...the reason people would breakout after a facial is if the entire plug was not removed during the extraction process...By cleaning the pore entirely u will eliminate the chance of breakouts...as far as the massaging goes...i dont know who said not to do that but massaging is an essential part of the facial because it reduces swelling and inflammation... I dont know why your your derm doesnt like estheticians because most doctors on the island have an esthetician on staff...when i was in school we met several doctors on the island who encourage facials as part of their treatment...U need to find a reputable place to go to...so that u wont have the problem u have been having...

i think alot of these girls who had facials never really even had it extracted, more like pampering type thing. Yeah that was another thing she told me, that when i pop my own pimples i dont take out the whole thing so it will continue to come back.

I used to go to someone else who extracted all my pimples and white heads and she also massaged me and honestly when i would go get this done i wouldnt go out the same day bc my face was so red and swollen and you can really see the marks alot. I was afraid of having it done on a tuesday and what i would look like the next day bc from my past experiences it was so obvious lol. Honestly this time i didnt have any swelling and the next day after my facial i went to work with no make up on so i can let my skin breathe...if i would have marks or any swelling or redness i wouldnt have gone to work with no make up
