Re: Diamonds
beware of tri county (unless you have a recommendation as I see snowflake08 posted)
Linda shop in Massapequa is good- we have been going there for years. We had mine set and apprised there, but got the stone from fhs uncle who used to work in the diamond dist.
I would do research on bluenile first to get an idea of prices- they seemed pretty accurate.
I'll e-mail my friend for the name of the guy she used to work with. (if he even still does it)

Re: Diamonds
my uncle works in the diamond district and he made my ring i dont buy jewelry anywhere else so it is hard to help with retail questions; but if you can avoid buying jewelry retail than do it at all costs
you would not believe the markup on jewelry - up to 300%!!!!

Re: Diamonds
We went to wedding ring originals in the city on Lexington and 56th Street (I think that is the street, could be 54th). We worked with Allan and he was great. I will go back there for my wedding ring.
It was great, I think we got a good deal (considering we didn't know him or anything). And he let us 'ship' an empty box to my friend in jersey so that he could say it was bought from out of state and we didn't have to pay sales tax.
They made the ring custom for me and it is even better than the printouts that I had left around for FH to find...hahahaha

One more thing I forgot to add. Not sure how much research you have done but the first time we went there, he spent a full hour just telling us about the different types of diamonds, i.e. color, clarity, cut, etc. He made absolutely no pressure for us to buy, even said i won't sell you one today until you know what you are buying.

Re: Diamonds
Try Good Old Gold in Massapequa Park. They have their inventory on line so you can see the prices and the certs of the diamonds you're interested in. We spent over 2 hours there learning and looking at diamonds. The diamond we ended up getting we had picked online first to see that night. Jonathan went over the 4C's very thoroughly, then showed us all three diamonds we were interested in through a microscope at 65x magnification on a 42in plasma screen. We had a lot of fun, and got a great price on the ring. We will be going back there for our wedding bands. I believe they may also be a vendor on here. I found out about them from doing a diamond search on pricescope.com.

Re: Diamonds
Contempo Jewelers in West Hempstead. He made my ring and is custom making my wedding band. Ask for MiMi or Nick (he's the owner) - He carries diamond that are 1 karat and larger. If you want something smaller he'll get it for you. Also if you know exactly what you are looking for he'll bring it in for you if he doesn't already have one.

Karat Shop isn't that great and honestly, I wouldn't trust buying a diamond from Tri-County JMO
