Hmmm, if you can get to the city why not stop by the Diamond District? That way you get to see any stones in person, loop them, get all GIA/origin info, etc.

I kinda sorta did. I did most of my reasearch on Good Old Gold and inquired by email. The sent me stats on diamonds I was interested in, but I ultimately went the their store in massapequa to pick a setting and view the loose diamond. They have an extensive collection and a very well written tutorial on diamonds.

Why are you afraid? Anything you order comes with a money back guarantee. Mt FH ordered it from the internet and it is perfect, appraised for exactly what thay said it was and it is BEAUTIFUL. It was easy, quick and we saved $$

Re: Diamonds off the internet...

the only 2 websites I would consider ordering diamonds online from are bluenile.com & ashford.com

I used to work w/someone who got her e-ring from Blue Nile and WOW!!!!

the up side to buying from them is that you get a GIA certified diamond with no tax and sometimes they offer interest free payments.

the downside is that you can't see the diamond until you get it. I would be on pins and needles until it got here. and then if you have to send it back....

we live in NY, so there are a LOT of options out there for us.

FH said he would never even consider it because he wanted to see what he was buying. he did VERY well, so I'm not complaining!

I guess to each his own, My FH picked out the setting he liked and then I told him all about the 4 c's. It was cheaper, no tax and no shipping

Who can beat that deal ?

We did a lot of looking around in person first to educate ourselves about what everything looked like - different sizes, colors, etc. Then we ended up ordering from Blue Nile - they had free shipping, a 30-day return policy (no questions asked), and strong reviews (e.g., Forbes' Best of the Web

I felt like we knew almost exactly what we'd be getting - the only part that might be a little iffy is the clarity (inclusions), although on most of their diamonds you can even see the picture from the GIA report so you know what/where the inclusions are. We took a chance, and it turned out even better than expected.

I like bluenile.com, but I got my diamond at a brick and mortar store
