Did anyone address their Envelopes this way?

Did anyone address their Envelopes this way?

Mr and Mrs John & Sally Smith ???

I seem to have an aversion to leaving out the woman's name...and wanted to see if anyone else did this. How did it go over? FH is concerned that I'm going to offend someone.

Also...how did you address single women in their 30's? Did you put Miss or Ms?

I didn't address my envelopes that way. I only did one person like that because I know she hates to be known as Mr. and Mrs. Tom XXX. My mom has received invitations worded that way and thought it was nice.

As far as Ms. or Miss - I used Ms on the older single woman and Miss for the younger children.

I'm also adding the woman's name. It's perfectly fine - it marks the occasion as semiformal as opposed to ultraformal according to Martha Stewart, but I don't care - mine is semi-formal anyway. I just couldn't do Mr and Mrs. Male on all of my invites.

If anyone calls me Mrs. FI's name I know it would upset me. I don't mind Mrs. Myname Hislastname, but Mrs. Hisfirstname Hislastname is a major pet peeve of mine. What am I, an appendage?

Hehe - I like the way you think! This is *exactly* how I feel.

My FH was concerned that older couples would be offended if I worded it that way instead of the traditional, Mr & Mrs John Smith.

Also...for married women who have kept their last name, how did you address them? Mr John Smith and Ms Sally Jones? Or did you put her as a Mrs? I think the former is correct - FH was questioning me.

I thought the same. I didn't feel right addressing a 30 y/o woman who has been living on her own for 5+ years, as Miss.

either way is totally acceptable. re: single woman, i would use Ms. instead of Miss.

If certain people you think would be majorly offended, then address those specific ones traditionally and do the rest the way you want. It's not worth upsetting people. But I got my info from Martha so it really is fine. (cause you know, Martha dictates my whole life )

For married people who have kept their last name, you do:

Ms Sally Jones and Mr John Smith

The woman comes first, and she's not a Mrs. I don't think she's a Mrs. even if she hypenates, but I may be wrong there.

Ah, thanks - I wasn't sure about her coming first or not.

Thanks for the link Jenn.

It just doesn't make sense to me to list a married woman, who kept her maiden name, as Mrs. That seems like she's her mom. I've always heard it's Ms.

the proper way to include both man and woman's name is this:

mr. john and mrs. sally smith

i just addressed all 114 envelopes this way (despite arguments with my traditionalist mother!!)

I'm using the inner envelope as the opportunity to list the woman's name. I guess I am a traditionalist.

Nothing wrong with that - to each their own, right?
