why are you scared? It happens every so often. People freak out, we get back on our feet , its all apart of the circle of life lol

There is a reason for all of this. The government just doesn't tell you what it is from the start. =D

im scared because im decidng between 2 job offers... one that would have us stay here (where DH currently has a job) and the other which would have us pick up, move cross country, and DH would need to find a new job.

i'd really like to move back to NY but im scared with the economy that it might be a bad choice

I am very scared. DH got lost his job the week before our wedding because his company shut down. I don't know how long it will take to find a new job with the economy like this. We have a lot of bills to pay off from the wedding. This is not cool.

If that bill passes- the value of our dollar will go down even more and eventually we will be in a serious depression. Bush is an idiot who is complety screwing everyone but his buddies in the big corporations.

That's what the bailout is supposed to do. Are you suggesting they'd bounce back on their own? Don't get me wrong, I'm on your side, but if this does happen, we'll never know whether it was necessary or not.

Oh, and the people who get fired will be the guys getting paid the least. They'll close the corporate lunch room, fire the half the cleaning staff, then start in the mailroom and work up until they get to middle management.

The market is supposed to have ups and downs. That's the way the economy works. It is supposed to be based on the laws of supply and demand.

For the past 10 years, this country has had an artificially inflated market. sure, we were lead to believe there was a boom, but it was not based on the laws of supply and demand. And eventually there comes a recession.

had our government and the corporations not had the 'free money for everyone' attitude, we would have had a mild recession in the early 2000's. but instead they allowed everyone to keep spending without consideration for who would pay the bill.

The bill is due. And unfortunately, even those of us who live within our means and did not contribute to this situation have to foot it. Now we have the potential for a depression.

I say, let it all crash. The bail-out plan will only delay the inevitable. it will allow everything to stay artificially inflated. All this plan is doing is pushing the depression (which will be even more serious because then even our government will not have money) to the next term.

This is certainly a scary time. But if this bail-out plans go through, 2-5 years from now will be even scarier.

My thoughts exactly.

But I didn't catch the speech last night.

I'm with you! Not every Tom **** and Harry should be able to have a house! And printing funny money as a rescue is only going to screw us down the road...and not for nothing, we all pay enough taxes as it is, we shouldn't be left holding the bag for our government's failure to spend RESPONSIBLY. I spend my money responsibly, why can't they?

All that said, I really to fear for our banks and people's life savings. There is only so much in FDIC. I have no problem with people who live in houses they can't afford loosing their homes. I rent and I don't buy anything I can't pay for. It is the Americans who save that I am concerned for.

Re: Did anyone else get scared....

I got this email and I'm keeping the writer anonymous, but I thought it was AWESOME!

Now here's a bail out plan that works!

I'm against the $85,000,000,000 bailout of AIG.

Instead, I'm in favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in 'We Deserve It Dividend'.

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000
bonafide U.S. Citizens 18+.

Our population is about 301,000,000 ± counting every man, woman
and child. So 200,000,000 might b e a fair stab at adults 18 and up..

So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billon that equals $425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a
'We Deserve It Dividend'.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free.

So let's assume a tax rate of 30%.

Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.

That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket.

A husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?

Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.

Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads

Put away money for college - it'll be there

Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.

Buy a new car - create jobs

Invest in the market - capital drives growth

Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks
who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company
that is cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of trickling out
a puny $1000.00 ( 'vote buy' ) economic incentive that is being proposed
by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG - liquidate it.

Sell off its parts.

Let American General go back to being American General.

Sell off the real estate.

Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it up.

Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can 'never work.'

But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party!

How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the $85 Billion
'We Deserve It Dividend' more than I do the geniuses at AIG or in
Washington DC.

And remember, this plan only really costs $59.5 Billion because
$25.5 Billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam.

Ahhh...I feel so much better getting that off my chest.

You don't want to even hear what I think about the stupid mortgage companies
that loaned out billions of dollars to people who they knew had no way of paying
back the loans, with both sides of the equation interested in one thing...fast money.
But it didn't work, and now we're supposed to bail out those idiots too???
