Did anyone else not have an engagement party?

Original post by Teamhurldon

Just curious. Most of FH and my friends and family are all out of state since with both moved here a couple years ago, so we haven't had an engagement party, well because no one would come, and we want to save our 'visit us requests' for wedding...

I was just wondering if anyone else is missing out on the engagement party festivities :(

We did not have an engagement party because we got engaged two and a half years before we were going to get married. We sent out engagement announcements and ppl sent up gifts if they wanted to.

we didnt have one either ( we have been engaged 4 years) but some of our friends and people i work with say we should because if people choose to bring gifts (like $$) we can use it towards the wedding. So i think we are going to have a BBQ-engagement party in the late spring or early summer and just make all the food ourselves. we usually have a bbq every summer anyways lol!

im not having an engagement party, i feel like its a waste of money cause u can use whatever that costs towards ur wedding and u r basically having ur guests give u more than one gift...so i just dont think its fair.....

We actually just had our e-party and it was great!! My parents gave us the party so it helped out a lot!!! We originally were going to have a small dinner but then soooooo many of our friends and family were calling and telling us they had gifts for us and wanted to know if we were having a party or not to know when to give us the gifts. SO on that note we felt it only fair to have something for them as well. That is how we decided on a party because we wanted to give them a nice night and thankyou for their gifts. Everything works out for everyone and i think everyone has their reasons for either having or not having an e-party. Ours just worked out in everyone's favor!

I didnt have one.. because i really didnt think we would have the money to throw one.

we were thinking of doing something small at my parents house when the weather gets nicer so we will see what happens.

I am actually gonna be able to pay off a decent amount of my RH and also i wont have to worry about my installments for a little while...its gonna be nice to take a break from $3500 every two months.

BUT that is not why we had the party, we wanted to celebrate with friends and family and we were asked by family about what we will do to celebrate and thought this would be the best way...PLUS i love the fact that our bp that doesn't know eachother, and our family besides our parents who have hung out a couple of times will all get toknow eachother before the wedding...This way they are acquainted with eachother, i dont have to worry about them being uncomfortable around eachother, and our friends and family will celebrate with eachother more.

I mean to each their own...but those who have had it, dont do it with bad intentions

i agree - like i said, people will give you gifts as engagement presents with or without a party - if the real reason for the party is not money or gifts, than i would state 'No Gifts Please' on the invitation - THEN if people choose too, its extra nice
Again - JMO - Ive been on the other side WAY too many times to do the same to others

well if people give gifts regardless then wouldn't it be easier if we didnt have a party and saved the money...I mean i couldve gotten the gifts and saved myself the cost of the party. I am also paying for these guests to attend and throw a party. I actually did suggest to write no gifts but it was voted against ...I am not looking to make money off my wedding or e-party, i know i am losing not coming out on top.

For the wedding, my cost pp is more than what MOST people will leave in the envelope...most couples will leave what it will cost just me for just 1 of them, and i am fine with that...yes we will have some close friends and family that will leave more but overall we will lose out, and that is perfectly fine. If i wanted to make money off of all this, i wouldn't have added extras, or extra hour or anything...The way i see it, if people are gonna give us gifts anyways why not throw a party for them, buy them a meal and drinks and give them little gifts, there is also that way to look at it...Id rather do that for them.

HOnestly when i first got engaged NONE of this was on my mind, no gifts no how much it would cost us to throw the party or anything...it came down to this, i was extremely happy to be engaged and that i found such an amazing person and i wanted to celebrate and show our close friends and family how happy we are. and thats all there was to it.

EXACTLY!!!!
I loved my e-party...we had a blast and so did everyone. it was sort of a way to kick off all of our wedding celebrations. Basically all of our friends had e-parties also so no one felt like it was a bother or anything.
Just another reason to celebrate!!!

We didn't have one, and have no plans to have one. We are just way too busy with other weddings we are in and work and everything else. My FH's family keeps asking if we will have one, but unless they throw it for us, we don't have time!

Yes it has been hectic, I will admit that. Trying to plan the wedding and at the same time plan an e-party. It does take some time away from wedding plans and gets stressful, there have been times like now, that ive wanted to rip my hair out bc of this e-party
