Did anyone ever hear of this?

Did anyone ever hear of this?

A woman in my office told me that once a girl gets to a certain age that she should cut her hair shorter. Well short.
I said I want my hair very long for my wedding.
She said that its not so suitable for my line of business no less of someone of my age and I am 25.
Has anyone heard of this?

Yes Ive heard of it and in most cases I agree that there is an age that a women no longer looks appropriate with long hair. I think 25 is a little young though. I would say by the age of 35, most (not all) women look much better with a shoulder length or short cut. It makes them look more professional and put together since at that age, longer hair becomes more brittle and harder to manage.

As for me, Im growing my hair out now b/c I want to have really long hair one more time before I lop it off when Im 30.

Edited to add: I work in a pretty uptight environment and NEVER leave my hair down. I think long hair is a distraction when working or meeting with others since its 'gets in the way'. My hair is always off my face.

Re: Did anyone ever hear of this?

Oh my God, I hate when people say hair length has an age limit! My aunt did that to my mom. MY mom has her long hair blown out straight a little past her shoulders and my aunt told her that isn't appropriate for a woman her age. My mom is young mom and looks great - barely even has any grays and passes for her early 30's - why should her age dictate her hair length.

In the business world, I do find that as the trend. As woman start hitting their late 20's/early-30's, off goes their hair. I am in my very early 30's and have no desire to cut my hair (it is right past my shoulders and if it would grow longer I would let it - m hair doesn't grow!) and I am an extremely professional business woman in a management position. Mind you I would not wear it down to my butt but as long as you wear it professionally and groomed it should be fine. Only, when girls wear it wild, dyed crazy colors, looks ratty, etc. in the business world, it is not appropriate for a professional/business world job.

My hair is back always ..
I would say I never ever wear it down..
I can't be bothered with it......
So its not like its unruly.
I think she was more speaking about the length.
I wonder why length is an issue?

I asked because I wondered who would have the balls to say that to you. You're 25 years young for crying out loud!

Ignore her...and wear your hair down tomorrow!

I think as long as you keep it rom looking unruly at the office, length should not matter at your age.

I've heard of this...but not at 25. I'd even say 35 is young to say that to. But to each their own.

Personally, I love short hair - I've had my hair at every length from the top of my butt to Halle Berry short...I think the pixie cut is extremely flattering on older women whereas Demi Moore's hair (at 40) isn't. TO ME, at least.

People associate long hair with young girls...short hair with older women. There are no rules - you do what works for you.

In my preofession, it is mentioned that having long hair is very unbusiness like, even when goign on interviews, epople say that long hair is unprofessional, even if pulled back and that sholder length is the good length to have.

I don't personally agree with this, but that is what I ahve heard.

t, we have a director lady, in her early/mid thirties, and she has hair down to her butt and wears it down... But it still looks decent, and to me she looks professional

F*** that! My hair is almost to my a$$ and I'm 26 and not cutting it any time soon. Women who say s*it like that are usually jealous of the younger, pretty co-workers in the office!!!

I tend to think that it's not the hair or the clothes, it's how you carry yourself....period. And the notion that short hair denotes professionalism speaks volumes about (excuse the feminist statement) it being a man's world.
