If you're ging to use it then defintiely register for it. Also not all fine china is very expensive. There are some nice patterns for around $50.

I don't think you should feel bad, in my experence fine china is the gift people LOOK to by you, it's a very standard registry item. I ahven't had an e-party or shower and I've already received 4 place settings of fine china and an oval platter for my china. It's a very popular gift.

i did, but i didnt pick out the super expensive one that I would have loved... i choose a moderatley priced pattern... just think of your registry as a wish list... people choose what to buy you, you aren't forcing them to spend more money then they want to!

If you don't feel comfortable doing it then dont.

Originally I was not going to but my sister convinced me to. She said if no one buys it then no one buys it.... if they do then thats great. I know I could probably never spend that much $$ down the road on plates. So if not at my shower I would never have good china.

I'm not - although I did pick out a pattern. Honestly, I just don't want people buying me fine china when FH and I need so much other (more commonly used) items for our new home - ie. toaster, blender, mixer, etc. I just think I would be annoyed at myself for registering for it if all I got was the fine china and not the other stuff

(if I already lived with FH and had the basics, I would DEFINITELY register for the china. When else am I gonna buy it?)

I didn't, only because my parents gave us the whole set. But if they weren't, I would have registered for my China.

Think of it this way: A Registry is a wish list. It also gives a lot of options for your guests and plus if you don't get everything most stores give you a Completion Discount towards your registry items.

Thanks everyone
I think I'll register for moderately priced ones.

not planning on it.

But I WILL register for a LOT of everyday china - at least 15 full settings and extra dinner plates, because I have a large family.

nope, for three reasons.

i wouldn't use it (any parties we have are of the BBQ and cocktails variety!)

My everyday China is so pretty - I would use it at Thanksgiving and other times...

I will inherit family China.

It's all about whether or not it works for you and your lifestyle.

Didn't register for it for exactly the same reasons.

no, I did not want to store it anywhere and we don't have a house yet.

I registered for a semi-formal set of all-white placesettings, but not fine porcelain china. You do not HAVE to register for anything specific these days, so just ask for what you really want from places you really like to shop from (so that if you change your mind on anything, you can find something else to exchange it for).

I did not. I just could not see when I would be having such a fancy dinner that I would need it. I actually saw casual china / fancy every day dishes that I liked in an outlet store and my mother, grandmother, and aunt bought me a set to serve 12 as an engagement gift. I did not think the fancy china was worth the price.

My sister didn't and I'm pretty sure she still regrets it....more than 10 years later.

I didn't want China so I didn't register for it. I wanted 'everyday' dishes instead so people got me everything that goes with them (gravy boat, flatware etc...)
