so, my fiancee's cousin owns an invitation company. I figured being that this was a new company and family that I wouldn't get taken advantage of..I mean I wasn't looking for a freebie but...
I had a custom invitation made, which I showed the exact invitation to her from another site.
I was quoted $1700 for: 150 invites..matted on shimmery paper with monogram and 2 font colors..in an envelope.. And printed addresses
150 direction/hotel cards
150 response cards w. Envelopes addressed
All held together by a belly band.
Is 1700$ outrageous for this or is it me? Id like to think I'm not getting overcharged..but geez I didn't even order a pocket fold! This doesn't even include my menus or place cards!!

I'm making my own but when I was looking around the pocketfolds were around $8 an invite which you get the pocketfold and one more card (reception card) which is more than what you are getting at $11 an invite

That does seem like a lot - was that the exact quote for everything picked out, or just an idea of what she usually charges for 150 of each? I did my stationery for 150 through Vistaprint using wedding chicks free templates so I'm out of the exact loop - all of our stuff came in at about $220 - but still, I can't imagine 1700 being a normal price!

i paid $800 for custom from even*starpaperie.com (take out the *) for 140 invitations and all addressing

That is definitely a lot. I would shop around for sure because it's just invitations and you could probably get comparable ones for half if you shop around.

what kind of design did you have in mind? i highly highly recommend sites like minted, wedding paper divas and printable press - they have amazing quality, a huge selection and are way cheaper. these were the places i would have gone if i hadn't come across the templates we used. a lot of etsy vendors will also custom make a ton of things for you at a lower price.

that's definitely a bit pricey. how are they printed? if it were letterpress, i'd get it but if it's not that's on the high side.

Also depends on what type of printing you're having done. Regular laser printing/ink jet, thermography, or letterpress.
If it's regular laser printing I'd think that is a bit much, if it's letterpress its a great deal, if thermography, I'm not sure.
I'd go and get quotes from other companies for sure.

That is a lot! I was quoted that kind of price at an invitation store in the neighborhood....I decided to go with a vendor on here...very happy with her...I got custom pocket invites for wayyy less than your quote.. I also did accommodation cards with the metallic envelopes.. You should email her its sweetstuffdesigns

I am sorry to say this but it sounds like you got ripped off...unless, of course, they are being printed letterpress (as other girls have mentioned). It seems like it's already a done deal, so I won't tell you to shop around. But if you haven't, I have a great designer I am working with that recreated my invitations that would have cost 1200 bucks. :)

That's seems like a lot..I got pocket fold with different color fonts and got rhinestones on them as well, I also ordered 175 of them, but mine were less than that. Sorry this happened to you with a family member. See maybe if he can get the price down somehow

That seems very high for what you are getting. I am getting pocketfolds and the places i have been to have quoted me cheaper than that.

Actually, I feel like that is an appropriate amount. I spent the last two weekends shopping for invitations and went to various vendors. Based on what you say you got, I think the price is fair. Layered invitations always drive the price up. Also you got the envelopes addressed which most places told us would cost about $1.20/envelope. Add in the belly band and the two inks (which usually is about $75-100 more PER ITEM and you have 3 different things). i'm not sure if you got lined envelopes, but that also costs more. overall, it sounds right to me!
