so, my fiancee's cousin owns an invitation company. I figured being that this was a new company and family that I wouldn't get taken advantage of..I mean I wasn't looking for a freebie but...
I had a custom invitation made, which I showed the exact invitation to her from another site.
I was quoted $1700 for: 150 invites..matted on shimmery paper with monogram and 2 font colors..in an envelope.. And printed addresses
150 direction/hotel cards
150 response cards w. Envelopes addressed
All held together by a belly band.
Is 1700$ outrageous for this or is it me? Id like to think I'm not getting overcharged..but geez I didn't even order a pocket fold! This doesn't even include my menus or place cards!!

Re: did I get ripped off..invitations!
I feel like that is A LOT of money. I got 200 invitations, with a custom pocket, on high grade shimmer paper, with an RSVP card/envelope, accommodation, and direction card. I went to Dazzling Affairs on Jericho Tpke and worked with Erin. I believe I paid about $875.....

That's why I am making my invitations. Most people won't save them and they probably won't appreciate fine details like letterpress or calligraphy that really run the prices through the roof.

Hate to say it but, it sounds like a lot for something that mostly everyone is going to throw away, sorry.

This....we paid about $700 for the same amount. Not pocket fold. Including addressing (inner and outer envelopes)

Hey ladies!
thanks for your input! I still haven't received my sample yet. But take a look at the link below...
these are the invitations they are modeled after..cept custom monogram and bellyband that has our names..
http://emdotzee.com/products/
as I read her invoice, I realized she had something called foil stamping for the monogram. I asked her to take that off, and she did. She didn't take off any money, but she included menus and our guestbook cards.
idk if I should chalk it up to experience.. And never mix business with fam again? at this point, my invites have to go out for April, so I don't have too much time..and I don't wanna cause problems..
ugh!

What's the print type? Seems like she left it out on purpose which leads me to believe its regular laser or inkjet printing. I'd say that is too much IMO for laser/ink jet printing, even with an extra foil monogram and buckles.

That does seem like a lot - was that the exact quote for everything picked out, or just an idea of what she usually charges for 150 of each? I did my stationery for 150 through Vistaprint using wedding chicks free templates so I'm out of the exact loop - all of our stuff came in at about $220 - but still, I can't imagine 1700 being a normal price!
I agree, it is A LOT! I have a quote for 150, pockets folds from *cardstock.com for $140 and that price included all of the inserts as well at mono thingy. I have them designed and printed for $535 which includes design fee, step up and printing on EVERYTHING.
I think they are taking you for a ride!

I'm glad that they're at least throwing some more things into the mix for your money, but you're right. Mixing business with family is always hard because if you were to cancel on them it might bring about bad blood. I'm sorry you are getting charged an arm and a leg. Hopefully there was enough room in your budget for it :/

I paid less than that from e*v*e*n*s*t*a*r for 185 for pocket folds with bands, so yeah that seems like a lot.

That price seems a bit expensive. I am working with Jessica Rini her prices are definitely affordable.

Re: did I get ripped off..invitations!
not sure if that's expensive or not!
I paid $627 for 125 invites, thermography printing! I really wanted letterpress, but would have been double!
Got mine from weddingpaperdivas.com

Re: did I get ripped off..invitations!
If this is family, try to talk to them. Tell them this is higher than your budget allows and ask if they can remove the extra add ons and specifically ask if this is the best price they can give you. Don't be shy. You won't know unless you ask. If you pay this and feel ripped off, it will always bother you and I'm sure your paths will cross again as it's 'family'.

That seems like a lot to me.. I ordered 175 invites and paid less than that with pockets and 4 inserts and 3 crystals.
