did ur parents ever give u the 'sex' talk??

Way back in the day (I'm showing my age now).. Dr. Ruth used to have a radio show on Sunday night. And I would have my headphones on and listen and pretty much laugh at all the people who called in.

I was 13 and immature.

My folks didn't really give me 'THE TALK'. I got a quick overview from them I would say.

The best was when I asked my dad what masterbation was on a crowded bus. He turned so red from embarassment and basically said in a hushed voice... 'I'll tell you later.' Too funny.

Hey, OG - we're of the same generation more or less. I'm showing my age also - I listened to Dr. Ruth all the time (also with my headphones on so my parents couldn't hear.. lol) And let me tell you I would laugh my arse off at some of those conversations. (her accent just made certain words she used sound 'wrong' if ya know what i mean )

I never had a talk with my parents - they were old school and figured I would learn what I needed to learn in school or from friends, etc. Hell my mom didn't even talk to me about my period, i had to learn that from my friends also!

Someone called in once with their exploits concerning a carrot.. I thought I would just burst out crying laughing.

me too

never - and it totally resent it.

i am a really open person, and know i will talk openly about these things with my kids.

Sex was forbidden and sinful in my house. My mother once posted a sign on my bulletin board of a bride in her wedidng dress and under it it said 'What you should be wearing before you lose your virginity.' UGH. Totally passive agressive.

And you ask? Did it work? No! I lost my V card way too young and probably out of spite.

I feel very strongly about open communication with your children.

My mom gave me the sex talk...

Yes, when I was 24, with my FH for 3 1/2 years at that point and a few months away from being engaged. And it was mostly my dad saying...'well, we know you're probably having sex, but we want you to stop because we're Catholic and you're not married.'

How ineffective and poorly-timed.

My dad doesn't talk about me and sex in the same sentence (though he sounds eager for grandchildren. Knowing him he probably thinks I will have the second immaculate conception).

My mom and I talked when I was in college. She told me that she didn't believe I needed to be married because times have changed A LOT, but she told me it was important that I was in a committed relationship and I wouldn't regret my decision to give my virginity to someone.

when i was younger i got a video from blockbuster.. they used to have the free sections explaining sex, puberty, random things like that, i dunno if they still do it.

when i was older my mom would just be like times have changed and i just dont want you to regret your decision, you should only have sex with people you love. that was about it.

No they did not and I wish they had. I had to find out things from other people, etc. And my mom won't talk about anything like that even now. I wish we had a more open relationship When I have kids I want them to feel like they can talk to me about anything - even sex!

my mom kinda did when i was about 12, but i had already learned (from a special on PBS no less )

Basically it consisted of 'you know that sex thing. Don't do it till your married'

unfortunately, yes......couldnt look at them the same way for a while
