I have been accidentally finding out coworker's salaries because of this budget thing we are doing, and it makes me so depressed realizing how little I get paid....
Hopefully passing this exam will help get me a raise... But I am so depressed now....

Re: Did you ever find out a coworker's salary....
Yeah, I know how that feels esp when I got a promotion and it's still $10K less than what someone else is making!

Sorry I am in the opposite situation. Usually, I am the person making the most in the department with the exception of my manager. It is my mad skills on a conference call that does it for me.

I wouldnt mind so much, but I have been here almost 4 years now, and they wont change my salary unless my postion changes - and the only way it can change is if I pass this exam....

I get really ticked when I see what someone's starting salary is and I realize that I've been here for 8 years and I'm only making a few $ more.
And the fact that the biggest moron in the place is making $60K!!!!!!

Re: Did you ever find out a coworker's salary....
i work for myself so i've never really been in that situation but, my friend was once and it really made her mad. she wanted to quit immediatly. I told her she should at least talk to her boss first and ask for a raise.
when you do that though it's never a good idea to say 'we'll he makes more then me so i want more' just explain that you need to make more money and you think that with your skills you are worth it. on yahoo they have some good tips for asking. heres the link: yahoo tips also, it is usually more cost efficient for an employer to give you a raise then to train somone to replace you. the worst thing they can say is no (which could make you mad but it doesn't mean you have to quit) it's worth asking.

Ugh, I'm sorry. I know how you feel because this happened often in my old job and I couldn't understand why it was the case (especially when some of the people making more than me were complete nimwits.) It was discouraging and I beat myself up about it.
Now, I'm in the reverse situation and recently found out that I'm making quite a bit more than some other people who are supposed to be in the same 'grade' as me, and I feel bad because I know how it was to be in their shoes.
Hope your exam brings you (and the little one on the way!) a fairer salary!

Re: Did you ever find out a coworker's salary....
My boss recently left the company, and I got promoted to his position. I moved to his desk, and found a very personal file - bank statements, mortage, ssn, paystub. That b@stard was making almost DOUBLE my salary AFTER my raise for the promotion to take HIS job.

its never fun to find out information like that. hopefully you will pass that test (i am sure you will!) and you now have the knowledge of how much you should bargain for when you get a raise.

Same for me. Now they tell me I make too much ( ).
I used to know most people's income and would run into my boss office to discuss my income if I thought somebody made more than me and it was not justified.
I am very competitive when it comes to money. I never make enough.

I could never do that though, and won't when I negotiate my salary.... We'll see what happens!!!
