Did you ever go for a manicure/pedicure and not tip??
I went to a different place today than my usual place because my mom gave me a gift certificate that someone had given her. So I went cause it was free. Well this GUY, that did my manicure did such a horrible job. I swear I had more nail polish on my cuticle and finger than my nails. I sat through my pedicure fixing it myself. Needless to say I did not give him a tip, I just left after my pedicure only tipping the pedicure girl. But now I feel sorta guilty. But then when I look at my nails I don't. Anyone ever not tip because they did a sucky job? I guess I learned my lesson, go with your regular place that you trust!!

That's so weird that you're posting this right now! I got my hair blown out today for DH's installation dinner tonight. I went to the Lemon Tree, because I said to myself- they're just washing and blowing drying my hair!! Yeah - I was wrong! Girl barely washes my hair, blows my hair straight HORRENDOUSLY, starts CURLING the front of my hair layers up until I stopped her in horror and then asks me to show HER what I want and best of all, when I paid her she pretty much throws the ATM card back at me with the receipt and turns around and walks away - because I'm such a pushover I actually had a tip in my hand and when she turned around and walked away from me - I put it in my pocket and walked out! I am calling a manager on Monday - not even kidding!
ETA - I didn't mean to hijack - just so weird that you just posted this because this just happened an hour ago and I've never not given a tip before!

I had my eyebrows waxed a couple of weeks ago, and the woman usually wipes my eyebrows clean afterwards with alcohol. Well, she got alcohol in my eye!! So I didn't give her a tip. I am usually a sucker for tipping, and feel bad if I don't tip. But this time she deserved it.

I think I have flat out not given a tip only once in my life. I admit that I am ultra sensative because I have been a bartender for so many years. If someone does a really horrible job instead of the normal 20-25%tip I will give them 10-15%.

I spent 3 years working very hard for tips.
So, when someone does a sh!t job, I do NOT tip. I had to work hard for my tips and I still have to work hard for my money. Why should I give it to someone if they do a sucky job?

I think you did the right thing. I did the same when I got a pedicure and the girl was filing my skin instead of my toenail (making the skin practically raw)... It gives me chills just thinking about it.

I always tip. If I'm unhappy with a service, then I may give a little less, but I never not give a tip.

Whenever I get a mani, I always tip when I pay for the manicure itself. I never want to go into my purse or pocket after it's done, even if my nails are dry, I don't tip at the end. So I've never not tipped. I'd feel funny since it's a face to face transaction- in a restaurant the tip isn't always evident right away. I'm a wimp.
But I'm usually happy with the service I get at my nail place. There are also so many salons on this one block in my area, to I think they might have to work a little harder to keep customers since we could easily go elsewhere.

I usually do that too. I usually tip before they polish my nails because I don't want to dig in and get out money. But because I was at a new place, I waited because they did my manicure before the pedicure and I didn't know if I would have the same person, so I waited and I am glad I did. I never had a guy do my nails before and I never will again. They look so bad. the poilish is so uneven it looks weird.

You shouldn't feel obligated to tip if they do a crappy job. Tips are to recognize good work. They DO get paid!

actually this was a debate I had with myself yesterday. I went to my regular nail salon and got a new lady who gave me a manicure. I like my cuticles cut and she had no idea on how to cut them, expecially the way I like. It wasnt the typical nice manicure I usually get. But I tipped her because I felt bad b/c she was new and it wasnt like she did it on purpose... She didnt do a crappy job on purpose. but i will make sure next time I DO NOT GET HER....

definitely I give a very little tip, if you did a horrible job very little but if you did an excellent job than i tip more.
