Did you ever move with your office?

To another floor, another building, another state?
Was it a huge PITA?

How much extra work did it create for you? How far in advance to you prepare for the move?

Our office moved from Queens to LI and it was a huge PITA to pack up everything and get settled in. Prepared just a week before we moved. We packed the things we didnt use often earlier than that though.

But we are in a much bigger/nicer building so the move was worth it.

I think I have moved about 5 times since I've been here (almost 4 years). At an older job...I moved offices often...I used to joke, that I was going to put my desk on wheels. I think I was in 1 place for 1 day until I had to move again!

I don't have much stuff...everything I need/use is on my computer, I don't keep many files. So...as long as my PC is working and I have a pen, I'm pretty good.

I don't have much stuff...everything I need/use is on my computer, I don't keep many files. So...as long as my PC is working and I have a pen, I'm pretty good.

I wish it was that easy!

We are moving at the end of October & we have each department has different things to do. There are 3 people in our department. We have to clean out 20 files cabinets worth of old files this week. We barely have time to do our jobs as it is, I have no idea how I can get all this done & my regualr work too.

Is it normal to have to move on a Friday & then come in on Saturday & Sunday to set the new place up?

oh my god, my last job was working for a small PR firm where we had the shittiest bosses ever!! They totally broke about 50 workers laws,when they made us move the ENTIRE office via the husband's mini-van. I'll never forget helping one of the guys in the office pick up the SERVER and move it through traffic in Manhattan - that thing weighed so much! I can't believe what they got away with at that company.

When I worked on the trading floor we moved every few weeks...Moved desks, moved floors...Moving men came at night and moved everything, never had to move a thing...Just put everything i my drawers and the next morning my computer, chair, and desk was moved...I moved once here, to a different office, and did most of the moving myself. Not on the weekend though--that stinks!

Wow! That's bad. We are geting actually movers, but that's about it. Before I was here, this company moved from Midtown to Chelsea & apparently, people we assembling & staining furniture. So. . .this time, we are considered lucky.

The whole office is moving to temporary space in a new building, so we have to set up phoens, mail, etc & then a few months later, move to another floor.

I am assuming I'll have to come in on another weekend then. (If I don't quit first)

I don't even know what he expects us to do this time for a whole weekend, since a lot of our stuff will still be in storage.

yup thats how we did it..it really wasnt that bad. we had movers bring all the heavy stuff. we just came in to help file things away and set up our offices.

We also worked one weekend before the move to get all the old file boxes ready for the moving people.

My office moved from Greak Neck to Garden City. Although it was a shorter drive from Commack, the moved itself SUCKED!!!!!

yup thats how we did it..it really wasnt that bad. we had movers bring all the heavy stuff. we just came in to help file things away and set up our offices.

It just doesn't seem right. I am never free on the weekends. This moving one is no exception. I already accepted an invitation to a Halloween party, but I am hoping I can still make there after work.

Yes, when I worked in the city our office moved from the Union Square area to the flower district. It was a huge company, and it was a huge pain...and I'm the dork who got picked to be a 'move captain' because of my organizational skills......it sucked! ha ha!

That's near where I work now ( flower district)

We are moving to Broadway below Wall Street.

I really need to buy a car & find a job in Westchester.

i'm the editor at a small diversity-related publisher on LI, but I used to work at Sterling Macfadden publishing in NYC, which became Dorchester Media after I left.

We moved offices about 3 years ago (from one side of a college campus to another). We didn't do the actual move (a moving company did that). But the planning, packing and unpacking was a royal PITA.

it wasn't far, but yes, we moved from westbury to plainview - it suc*ed out loud!! we had to pack all our sh!t and they came and moved it for us, which was fine. i just hated packing everything

We haven't even started packing & it already ***** out loud. We have to purge things that haven't been touched in 20 years.
