Did you have to drink a lot of water prior to your 20 week sonogram?

I'm getting my Level 2 sonogram tomorrow at the hospital and anxiously awaiting to hear that the baby is healthy and find out the sex!!

Were you told to be on a full bladder for this test? I was there for my 12 week sono and didn't need to be so I'd assume not, but I can't remember what they told me.

ETA - This will be at North Shore Hospital.

ugh - that's too bad

So this check is also internal? I didn't know they checked the cervix? Or they can do this through the sonogram?

How long were you there in total?

If I remember correctly, the whole shebang takes about 30 minutes.

but is it all external sonogram or do they check internally as well?

I only had to drink 24 oz an hour before. External only. You should not be getting an internal again till the very end.

I only had to drink 2 big glasses of water before I went, and during the course of the sono my bladder got progressively fuller. That was when she could see the most. I say, even if they don't tell you to, drink some water before you go. Your bladder becomes a window.

Yeah, I honestly cannot remember what they told me, so I'll bring a bottle of water with me and finish it before we go - worst case I'll use the bathroom before the appt!

Glad to hear it's an external - I figured as much but you never know!

Stacey - it's so funny - just about EVERYONE says it's a boy - except for a few girls at work

I just made my appt. and they said no water. Yeah!

I had to drink a big glass of water. Of course the appointment was delayed and I kept peeing and then drinking the water again. After a while, the nurse said - just dont drink anymore water or you'll never be leaving that bathroom and we wont' make it through the ultrasound! I had to pee BADLY during the first 20 minutes and then once they got certain shots, they let me go pee and come back and start up again for the fun part of 'touring the body'!

That is just cruel & inhumane treatment!
When I was waiting for my appt, I commented to my DH that they better not be running late or there'd be an accident in the waiting room! You can always tell whose getting an U/S by the amount of fidgeting they do in the waiting room.

I didn't have to drink any water at all....I think it depends on your tech!

I had to drink a lot of water an hour before I left for the appt and then they left me sitting in the waiting room for another hour. I thought I was going to burst.

I wasn't told to drink anything prior to the sono. In fact they made me go to the bathroom before I took the sonogram. That was the 20 week. I think it depends on the tech. doing the sonogram. It was external.

Yes, and I drank like a friggin river and then my bladder was soooo full I couldn't even walk!!!! I asked them if I could go to the bathroom, since I had to wait what seemed forever, and they told me no. But then when we started doing the sonogram the dr tells me that my bladder was TOO FULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I had to go pee!!!! The nerve, I tell ya!!!!

Just came back - I drank 2 bottles of water just to be safe but they didn't even mention it - there were just signs all over saying NOT to empty your bladder...I guess because full is better.

Luckily I didn't have to be in too much pain!
