I SUCK at cooking. Probably because my husband is a culinary FIEND and LOVES it so much. And I must say he's kind of critical shen I do 'give it a shot' - but I wish that would not discourage me so much! I can make a few things ok, but I just wish I would enjoy it more and try again when I fail.
Did you all know how to cook when you got married?

I am not married yet but I do know how to cook. My mom and grandmother taught me how to cook when I was little.

I knew how to make only a few things. It got much better once we got married because I felt omfortable experimenting. If it came out terrible - who cares? Don't be intimidated!

Re: did you know how to cook?
I have definitely gotten alot better at cooking over the last 5-6 years. I have always enjoyed it, but it wasn't until I lived alone that I started to experiment with certain dishes. Cooking and baking are in my genes...my family is big into home cooked meals.
Don't let your hubby discourage you! Try to get him to teach you, rather than criticize. And we can help too!

No and I still don't. I actually really don't like it... it's just stressful for me.

Re: did you know how to cook?
we both cook - we've both moved out of our parents homes years ago so we've been cooking for ourselves for years.
maybe you can try something different that your DH doesn't cook so he won't have any set way of doing/making it.

Re: did you know how to cook?
I am a terrible cook. After three years of living together, I finally learned how to make a few meals:
Asparagus, brussel sprouts, double stuffed baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, lasagna, eggplant, and perogies and onions.
That is literally the extent of my cooking. As my FI always says, 'I'm not marrying you for your cooking.'
I SUCK at all things domestic. The first night we moved in together, I used liquid soap instead of dishwasher soap when I ran the dishwasher. About an hour later, the entire kitchen floor was covered in BUBBLES like a brady bunch episode. Its very sad. But who wants to be domestic???

LOL AM! I didn't know that bubble thing could really happen!!!
I have been living with my husband for 9 years. That is the problem. He has been cooking for me forever it seems.
But I will TRY HARDER! (with a little help from my friends! )

I can cook and I really enjoy it esp. when I have the time to be creative and make new things (not very often though). I cook almost every week night. The strange thing is many woman are shocked when I tell them I cook and bake and enjoy it. I am not sure if it is because I am a city girl or a business professional or what - I don't understand it.

I can cook, but I think I am better at baking. I guess I need to cook more, but I live on LI and work in NYC and get home late. Sometimes I cook on the weekends, but not much. Hopefully FH and I will cook more when we are married and living together.

Re: did you know how to cook?
I HATE cooking. My idea of cooking dinner is throwing together a salad. Since we've been married my husband wants me to cook 'real' meals - which I hate doing becuase he is soooooo picky. This is defintely an area that is a bone of contention between us - I didn't get married to cook for someone!
On the other hand I love to bake - apple pies, cookies, etc. - I wonder what my problem is with cooking?

Re: did you know how to cook?
I can cook, but the major drawback...I hate cooking meat...I can't stand to be around raw meat!!! Obviously, I rarely eat meat, and FI loves steak, etc. We do a lot of dining out!

I really don't enjoy cooking, but I love baking. I've been baking for years and think I'm much more talented in that area.
My sister loves to cook, and she's amazing at it! I just don't enjoy it like that, but I'm ABLE to cook. My biggest recent accomplishment was a full 4 course meal for 6 of us - and it was a success!
DH is a great cook - he's Italian Too bad he's not home early enough to make me dinner each night

Re: did you know how to cook?
I LOVE too cook!! I feel like I was born in the kitchen... I would rather stay home and cook all day than be at work. I want to be a Pastry Chef
Unfortunately I also love EATING, so that's the biggest drawback!
