Did anyone have any idea if they were getting engaged? I had some sort of an idea since we were together for 5 years. I was starting to get really impatient.

I knew it was coming soon, bc we were buying a house. I just didnt know that it was going to be exactly when it was.

I didn't have a clue. we had talked about it a lot, but I had no idea it was coming. he took me away for a long weekend on Block Island, but every summer we do something similar so I thought nothing of it. my ring almost wasn't done in time. The jeweler called him at like 7pm the night before. And I was wondering why we looked so funny all week!
Yup. My FH is not exactly Mr. Romantic. I picked out the ring cause he said he was clueless. lol
pretty much same scenario here lol

Yes I did know I was getting engaged... My FH wanted me to choose the ring I will be wearing for the rest of My life.... He wants me to wear a ring I love and he loves as well....

yes, I dropped a lot of hints for FH and he finally picked up on them..I just didnt expect him to do it at the time he did..

Yes, FH asked me by surprise in August (no ring), bought the ring, then asked me again December..so I KNEW IT WAS COMING

I helped pick out my ring as FH said -- I don't want to see 'that look' when I open my ring (who me?? LOL).
But the agreement was that I am all up in the ring designing/choosing but after that -- i couldn't know anything. . . even the ring designer was in on it and was sworn to secrecy.
I didn't know when he was going to propose exactly -- although he did ask my father for his blessing -- and my dad comes straight to me -- is this what you want! LOL I was like ooooooooooooh!!!!!!!

I knew it was coming sometime that year. In October, we went looking at rings, just to look and learn about diamonds, or so I thought. I fell in love with one setting and FH said he will remember that for the future. I knew it would be coming maybe at Christmas or New Years. He totally suprised me when he proposed three days after we looked at rings. I was totally taken off guard, and as he's kneeling there, in my head I was calculating and going, 'damn, that was a fast turnaround!'. I actually questioned if he was faking, because I thought at the very least it would take a week to get the ring. ('No way! Now? Really? Wow! Really?') The poor guy was on his knee for a while so I could grasp the whole thing. So I knew it was coming, but when it happened, I was shocked. Elated, but totally taken off guard.

Yes but I didn't know when. All he told me was that it would be 'sometime in 2009' We got engaged the Saturday after our anniversary. I was hoping he would but even that day I was convinced that it wasn't going to happen (I wasn't exactly the most patient of people when it came to this)...so much so that when I saw the box my first word was a very surprised Noooooo! as in OMG I can't believe it. Followed by are you sure? you are doing this? etc. LOL

yeah I kinda knew it was coming. We had been together for 8 years when he finally asked. I was living in Florida for a couple of months right after I graduated college. When I moved back, my parents had a graduation party (cause my school only did a formal graduation once a year, in may), so he did it then....but I was just so happy that it finally came

We had been together forever so it was bound to happen - he kept saying we were gonna get married BUT How we came about being engaged was kinda ridiculous. I started planning the party and decided we were engaged. Im terrible with surprises and gifts- If I dont pick it out Id rather not get anything most of the time so I definately picked the ring out, I did wait till he gave it to me thou.

Yes, but at that exact moment no.
We've been dating (at that point for) 9 years and have talked about marriage for many years. But due to circumstances beyond our control we chose to wait until the time was right. Finally the time was right and we talked about waiting another year to save money for a ring and the wedding. Little did I know the little bastid at that point had already been scheming the proposal, looking at rings and even asking for my family's blessing!
So the engagement itself I knew was forever coming, never a doubt. When it actually happened. Complete surprise!
