I rememeber the lawyer saying to tip someone maybe? The title person or something? I could be wrong though.

yep - that's who I tipped - not sure why but my lawyer said that is standard and told us the standard amount so we did it. I know there was a debate awhile ago - I believe on this site - on whether it is necessary or not.
Title guy. Our lawyer just leaned over to DH and said write a check for this amount to this guy.

We didn't tip anyone...however, we bought in PA...things are just different there. I don't think the title lady was expecting a tip...and we didn't even use lawyers (see...I'm telling you things are very different outside of NY).

Tipping at closing? Thats INSANE. I have never heard of that. Tipping the title guy $100 buks?
I dunno... I have only done co-op closings but there are still title searches and stuff done for this. Doesn't the lawyer handle all the title work?
So are you saying that at a house closing you get an additional title guy at the closing table that you have to tip? Thats bizarre.
I am going to mention this to my FMIL and see what she says. She has been through a number of house closings out on Long Island.

Yes - the title closer usually gets a 'tip' of about $100.00. The title closer actually does the title and tax search. Your mortgage co will not hand over the check until the title closer says all is clear.

Exactly... but in my closings... my lawyer did all the title work for me... and I handed her an additional check for the title fee. Usually around $250 if i remember correctly. Once she said the title search cleared... we were good to go with the closing.
She never said I had to tip anyone.
