Did you wear a slip? (MICI are you?)

Did you wear a slip? (MICI are you?)

Mici - are you wearing one?

did anyone NOT wear one? i have another fitting next week and i think im going to tell them i dont want to wear the slip...first off, it was the smallest one they had and it kept falling down - during the fitting it was hanging out from under the dress....i asked if she could sew it into the dress (my FSIL swears hers was sewn in) and she said no....well, if its not sewed in i dont want to wear it - its going to be falling down the whole time....i was just standing and it was falling.....and it was tied TIGHT......

anyone else have this problem?

i didnt wear a slip. I didnt need one, my dress had enough crinoline and whatever else it had underneath lol that it stayed fine and the shape was fine. I didnt even try one on or anything

im not sure if mine needs one - but you want to know what - i dont think it needs one - at first i wanted the dress to be really big and poofy but the closer its getting the less i want something like that.....i dont think the slip made it that much fuller - especially since it was just hanging on me

It depends on what you are comfortable in. I need one -- the didn't force me it just looked so much better with it. But my slip does not have a tie. It is a slip on with a high waste.

Try it on without and see how you like it. If you think you need it ask for a slip that slips on or tell them to alter the slip to fit you.

They should be able to alter the slip to fit.

i dont its weird bc i see many girls on here ordering one before their dress even comes in. My dress was WAAAYYY poofier than i even thought it would be. My sample had 1 layer of crinoline i think so wasnt really poofy at all. OMG when my dress came in it took over most of the dressing room and if you ever saw say yes to the dress then you see how big those dressing rooms are when your dress comes in. I even had to take layers out of my dress and look how big it still was lol. So if a slip is used for the poofy effect i say ONLY if your dress doesnt have enough crinoline but most dresses come with or should come with it. For some dresses i guess you need it but depends on your dress.

i know the inside of my dress has crinoline in it - and the slip they gave me was regular, it wasnt a wide one or one that was really full....it was a tie waist - it was ghetto, and my mom bought it for me while we were there - i dont know why, i was trying to tell her to wait because i wasn't sure if i needed it or if i could find something better somewhere else - i feel like macys is such a rip off - they charged me over $400 already for alterations, the slip and cups....

but anyway, i think Mici said she isnt wearing one - we have the same dress...

ask them to see other slips then, if its not doing much then dont waste the money.

See thats where i would've gotten mad if when it came in they said i had to pay extra for a slip to give it the effect that dress SHOULD have then i would've said they need to fix it somehow without the slip or do something bc i paid enough for the dress that i dont think i need to pay extra to make it look the way i paid for it to look already.

Re: Did you wear a slip? (MICI are you?)

if u have stuff under your gown already (like the crinoline) u probably dont need anything extra. and if its annoying...then forget it. ive never heard of one that ties either. and theyre just being annoying because they can totally DO SOMETHING to make it not fall off...even if they dont sew it onto your dress...they could at least alter it! im sure its not hard.

im actually having them take some pouf out of my dress cuz i think its too much.

My dress has a ton of crinolin but before I even purchased it the women at the store said it was up to me but I would most likely need to purchase a slip to go with it. When it came in I brought my sister's slip with me and tried it on. The offered to alter the slip for me but I asked to try it on with a new slip and it was a world of a difference. So i bought the new one. Just because a dress needs a slip does not mean that the dress isn't doing what it is supposed to do. Different designers do it differently.
Nicole -- your slip should fit. If it doesn't then they are selling you the wrong thing.

ETA: Nicole did they have you try on the sample and what you purchased is new -- I ask becuase when I was trying on dresses many of the slips in the store had a string so that it would fit girls of all sizes. I am wondering if you had the sample on.

Re: Did you wear a slip? (MICI are you?)

no - they sold me the slip with a string!! they put it with my dress and when they told me how much alterations were i decided to hold off on paying until my 2nd fitting, then while i was scheduling my next appointment my mom offered to pay for the slip and the cups - i forget what they charged for those - i wasnt really paying attention figuring i would figure it all out before my next fitting but it was too late....

when she got me the slip the seamstress said my waist was too small, and she can try to alter it the slip (i guess in length? b/c it was LONG) then i asked her if she can just sew it into my dress and she said no....then she told me to start eating lots of macaroni.....ok yeah, b/c that will help

so i have this stupid slip - you can see it hanging out in these pics - b/c it was already falling off me...

same here! mine was fine without it. and it was a lot cooler under there

They should be able to alter the WAIST so that it doesn't fall down, and then they don't need to alter the length.

do you have a pic of before and after with the slip? just curious bc i always thought it was for poof so curious to see the effect it has. Does the bottom of the dress just sit differently, is that what it is?

I had to get crinoline and whatever else underneath taken out so for me it was too much so thats why the though of adding didnt even cross my mind, i thought mine was a bit too much so my concern was how can we take this down a bit now. I also am probably the only bride on here who ONLY wore boy shorts under her dress, i didnt even wear a bra but thats bc the top was taken in when i had taken my bra off bc it was showing too much so wanted to see it without it and then when i went back with my bra it was too tight on top lol.

they should be able to alter the slip too. I wore one to puff out my dress more but I was def tripping over it a little. My MOH ended up taking hers off because it was slipping off- totally up to you!

Absolutely. The one I thought I was going to use was too big in my waist and the first thing they said is -- this is going to have to be taken in. It ended up need a bunch of other alterations to make it longer and had a zipper so it was easier to just get a new one.

No I don't have pics but I will take them at my next fitting. I am not wearing a bra either -- only boy shorts oh and thigh highs -- but that is because i can't do closed toe shoes without a stocking. I had a friend who wore NOTHING under her gown.

Re: Did you wear a slip? (MICI are you?)

i dont have any pics without the slip.....

BUT

i go next week for another fitting and i am asking to try it on without the slip....

i just wish i would have sorted this out BEFORE she started alterations....i wasnt thinking and it was kind of rushed....b/c it was a surprise...

i think if its a little less full than that is fine - i just dont want it to look deflated....

and why would they sell me a tie string slip?
Future Mulligan Posted:

Re: Did you wear a slip? (MICI are you?)
