the metal IS displaced, but you lose a layer every time you polish.

I worked with jewelry for a little bit

So, should I get my platinum e-ring polished right before the wedding? It IS a bit scratched up.

Definitely have it polish. You want it to very sparkly and vibrant.

Hmmm.. I think I am leaning towards platinum. My e-ring is platinum so I want them to look similar and I work with my hands alot so it would most likely ware more for me. Unfortunately FH is dead set on getting platinum for his so we'll have to figure out how to afford 2 more platinum rings

Thanks so much for all your help!!!

Head to the China town Diamond District! You will get a deal there especially if you can pay cash - and they are willing to haggle. We bought my wedding band - platinum and diamonds - there for about $400. To this day I get compliments, and have never had a problem with the ring.

Is 'polishing' different from 'cleaning'. I have it 'cleaned' at a jeweler every now and then to clean the diamond every now and then, but will 'polishing' address the scratches in the platinum? TIA!
