Different Days for Ceremony and Reception?

Hi all,

Has anyone decided to have their ceremonies and receptions on different days?

We just got engaged on our dating anniversary, and we'd really like to get married that same day. It's very meaningful for us. However, while next year, it falls on a Saturday, it skips to a Sunday during 2016 due to the leap year... so many places are booked already. Ideally, I'd like to do everything in the same place on the same day, but I'm not sure if it's possible.

Any thoughts or advice? I'd like to avoid complicating things for both us and our families, but the date is very important to us.

Thanks!! :)

Different Days for Ceremony and Reception?

I think if you wanted to have a small ceremony with just close family/friends on your anniversary then reception following the next day it wouldn't be terrible. I know many couples that have a destination wedding for immediate family then have a bigger reception/party for extended family and friends when they return. I think you would just have to weigh out what's more important to you two, the date or having more people in attendance for each event. Also, a Sunday wedding isn't a terrible option, it's often cheaper than Saturday! Something to keep in mind. Congrats and good luck!

I think it would be fine. You can get married in the church on your anniversary so that it is legally your wedding date & then do the reception on another day, but I think you should try to do it on your anniversary if that's what you really want. Sunday weddings are so common. I've been to a few & they were great. If you're looking to get married in 2016 there has to be venues with that date available. The upside is if you have a sunday wedding, especially during the day, it's much more affordable. Good luck!

Different Days for Ceremony and Reception?

I def. wouldn't do that. Find a place that has the date open. We booked less than a year in advance and were looking for a Saturday in the summer and there were so many dates left.
