I never knew how many different unity ceremonies there were but I'm so excited to say we decided to do a braided chord ceremony!

Different Ideas for Unity Ceremony!
I stole this from a website for a better explanation! 'At some point in the wedding ceremony, the bride and groom braid the Cord of Three Strands together. The groom holds a small metal ring with three attached strands. The bride then braids the strands together, symbolizing the union of God, husband and wife. The colors of the cords is significant'
It comes out of the book of Ecclesiastes, where it talk about a threefold chord is not easily broken.
The Gold represents God as the head of the marriage The Purple represents The Groom submitting himself to God The White represents the Bride and the purity of the bride of Christ.
Being a christian couple, this is perfect for us!

A lasso ceremony is where a lasso is made out of either rosary beads, crystal beads, ribbon, flowers (pretty much whatever u want to make it out of) and it is placed over the bride and groom's shoulders (after they exchange vows) in the form of an '8' to symbolize their everlasting union and that they are bound together for life.
I saw this a long time ago on TLCs old show A Wedding Story. I had always said if I ever got married I wanted to do that at my wedding.

Different Ideas for Unity Ceremony!
You can do the hand ceremony. It is a poem that is read.
The Hands Ceremony
xxxx and xxxx, Please face each other and take each other’s hands, so that you may see the gift that they are to you.
These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever.
These are the hands that will work along side yours as together you build your future.
These are the hands that will passionately love you and cherish you through the years, and with the slightest touch will comfort you like no other.
These are the hands that will hold you when fear or grief temporarily comes your way.
These are the hands that will countless times wipe the tears from your eyes, tears of sorrow and tears of joy.
These are the hands that will tenderly hold your children.
These are the hands that will give you support and encouragement to chase down your dreams.
These are the hands that will hold you tight as you struggle through difficult times.
These are the hands that will give you strength when you need it.
These are the hands that will lift your chin and brush your cheek as they raise your face to look into eyes that are filled with overwhelming love for you.
And lastly, these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.

Different Ideas for Unity Ceremony!
I have to say, the braided cord ceremony is remarkably similar to the handfasting we'll be doing.
In the days leading up to the wedding, FH and I will sit down and choose colors for three ribbons, and braid them together privately while talking about our intents, goals, and aspirations for the marriage (notice the three).
Then this cord will be used to 'tied' our hands together (sometimes its draped) while a blessing is read.
There are couples who choose to braid it during the ceremony, but to braid something of any real length, long enough to wrap around both hands and securely attach together takes a while.

Oh wow I want to use this! Does the priest or rabbi have to read this or can it be read by anyone we chose?

A Sand Ceremony would be appropriate for an interfaith wedding. You would just have to change the reading a little!

We are doing a sand ceremony too, but I really like the frame idea.

We are doing a handfasting as well. We will also be doing a Unity Candle, but our handfasting will be my way of getting my Pagan beliefs into our ceremony. I haven't fully figured out when/how we are going to make our braided cord, I was thinking maybe asking my BM who is also Pagan to help out with this one.
It will be another added touch of someone's love and positive energy for us. Rev. Deb, who is a Reiki master as well is gonna have everyone imbue our rings with their love and devotion during the ceremony as well.

We are doing a wine blending ceremony. FH is jewish and I am catholic so I wanted a form of unity ceremony that incorporated parts of the jewish wine blessing. Also, we love wine so it is perfect for us!
