Digital Camera Help...Any photography buffs out there?

We want to get a new digital camera for our Honeymoon to South Africa. Part of our trip we'll be on Safari, so we want to get really great shots (with excellent zoom), can anyone recommend a good digital? We need to get it SOON. Thanks!

I have the Sony A80, it's 4 megapixels and has all these great options and SO easy to use. It also has the optionto have accessories attached, like a zoom lense.

DH and I have the same one but we haven't gotten an extra zoom lense. Even with out it, it is a great camera.

Re: Digital Camera Help...Any photography buffs out there?

from my understanding to take in the views and the sights, i would look at an 8mp camera (really high end comsumer level stuff)

all the 5mp cameras are very simliar. and with a trip to south africa, you don't want to short change your once and a moment pictures.

8mp is gonna cost you money but it's the best of whats out now and prices are sllllooowwwyyy coming down. you gonna need alot of memory to shot at that with that high of quailty....

your next best option is 6mp..

it also depends on your intent of the pics after they are done being taken? you gonna print them? how large? etc...

I have the Canon S1 - a less expensive but very nice alternative to the Rebel. It's got a 10X optical zoom and while it's only 3.2 megapixels, I've printed some fabulous 5 x 7 an 8 x 10 shots and I'm not even using the super high resolution setting. I got my at Cameta Camera and they were showing me some prints from both the Rebel and the S1 and you really could not tell the difference. I think the S1 is going for about $399 now. Whatever you do, get a couple of the 'chips' to hold lots of pictures - you don't want to run out while you're in the wild! Oh, and the real selling point for me is that the S1 can use the rechargeable batteries (the good ones that hold the charge memory) and it also runs on AA batteries, so if you in a jam and can't recharge, you can always pick up AA. And the charger charges up the batteries in less than 2 hours and has an adapter to plug into the cigarette lighter in the car.
