Digital DVD Camcorders

DH and I are looking to buy one for after we have the baby. We're not the type of people that are going to be filming every day or when we go to weddings and stuff but we do want a good one in order to capture 'firsts'.

We want a DVD camcorder. Does anyone have any ideas of what's a good one and what's bad?

TIA.

Re: Digital DVD Camcorders

only problem i have with dvd camcorders...i believe it writes straight to dvd... i'm the type of person that wants to edit, add music etc..

i'm not sure if dvd recorders can do that on the pc... you have little ablity on the camcorder itself but not nealy what you could do on the computer.

I have a DV camcorder. you transfer it to computer.. do what you want, take out parts, combine, music, titles, etc...
then i burn to dvd with my own menu's chapters etc..

let me know if you have any questions

Re: Digital DVD Camcorders

What kind of camcorder do you have? How difficult is it to do all of that? That sounds like it would be great to do and something we didn't think of.

It doesn't matter if it records straight to DVD because you can still do all the editing you need with music and such. In fact recording straight to DVD instead of tape is the better option because you preserve the most quality.

Plus I think a lot of the DVD camcorders come with really cool software that makes editing pretty easy.
