*DILEMA* Don't know what to do....
As some of you know (since I can't stop talking about it), I am finally moving back to LI next week. And unfortunately, I have to leave FH here until December so he can finish up school
Well, we only have one car, and need to get another, but we are budgeted down to the penny and we cannot in anyway afford one. There is no way FH can get by without a car up here, and I really wouldn't feel safe incase there was an emergency and he needed to come from MA to NY in the middle of the night, etc. So, my aunt very generously offered us her car to use free of charge from September until December so that we didn't have to worry, since her FH has an extra car. This offer is sooooooo attractive, but my parents are telling me I cannot accept it. They said it was too generous and what if she needs it or wants to sell it, etc. And now I don't know what to do
We serioudly cannot even save up a few hundred dollars to even buy a clunker for him to get from point a to point b, and I will be making less money now when I move home, so we can't even afford another car payment. I am so stressed out and freaking out, and I am just a wreck. I want to say to FH to deal with it and let me know what happens because I am so sick of worrying about money 24/7, but I could never do that to him
I just needed to vent. Thank you.....

Re: *DILEMA* Don't know what to do....
that really stinks. cant you explain to your parents why you need it, and if they want to sell it you will give it back? its not that long less than 6 months... i wouldnt rule it out right away..

I think its between you and your aunt, not your parents. If she's ok with it and has another car to use, whats the problem?Let her know that she can have it back if she needs it or wants to sell it at any time.

Re: *DILEMA* Don't know what to do....
I mean, I'm not a little girl, obviously, and I will discuss it with my aunt, but it's like they say, if it seems too good to be true........
We're just a mess financially right now, and FH is working 60 hours a week and I am starting up my music studio agaoin, and until that gets going, we are going to be even tighter with money
I just don't know how to deal with the stress sometimes, I just want to curl up into a ball.

Re: *DILEMA* Don't know what to do....
If she was going to sell her car, I'd imagine she'd know by now and would not have made the offer. However, I agree with your parents that there are things to consider. What if there was a car accident or the car was stolen or if it needed a major costly repair that wasn't covered under warranty (if there is one)?
There are lots of things that can go wrong that can turn well meaning family matters into very complicated ones. A lot depends upon your aunts temperment.
I haven't read your other posts about moving to LI. Will you be living with your parents until he gets here? Is there a way for you to perhaps use your parents car to get around and take the LIRR to work and give HIM your car?
This is quite a pickle and I feel badly for you.

I think if you are old enough to get married, you are old enough to decide yourself about using the car.

Re: *DILEMA* Don't know what to do....
Unfortunately, sinceI moved to MA, I lost my studio space and will have to travel from house to house to teach until I find another studio, or else it would be fine to leave him the car. And all of those things, Karen, are why I don't think I can accept my aunt's offer. Its just such a pain, I'm sorry for complaining, I know I must sound like a brat. I think I want to be a kid again......

I agree with Lisa - it's between you and your aunt, not your parents.I think you should discuss with your aunt what you will do god forbid something happens to the car, and if all seems ok with that, then I would take it.

No, you don't sound like a brat. You sound like someone who is in a real financial bind. I've been dealing with my own financial issues as of late and the stress headaches are UNBELIEVABLE!
Where was your old studio? Do you know what area you want to be in? I'm a real estate developer and I know a few commerical brokers. FM me if you want and maybe I can help connect you with a few folks that can find you a small storefront studio.

Re: *DILEMA* Don't know what to do....
Thanks Karen! My old studio was in Stony Brook, and I loved it and HATED to leave, but it was just something I had to do. I am dreading having to travel to everyone, but it does allow me to charge a lttle more and to accomodate more people. So depending on how things progress, you may be hearing from me! Thanks for the advice everyone!

Re: *DILEMA* Don't know what to do....
Are you familiar with North Belle Mead Road? It is in East Setauket and right across the street from the Stony Brook Technology Center, immediately north of 347.There is a building on the west side of the road that has a few small storefront units. It was only built within the last year or so. I do not think there is a broker involved but I can look for a phone number and see if there are any units that are still available, if you are interested. There is a piano distributer that just opened shop in there (sounds like a great neighbor for you). There's an art gallery and a fitness studio in that building too.
LMK and I'll look for you tomorrow.

I am not sure of the details on your situation but I agree with LisaT.Your aunt is amazing to help you out in your time of need. If she was going to sell the car, she would have thought about that a long time ago.
Good Luck on your decision.

Re: *DILEMA* Don't know what to do....
Just wanted to post and let you know that I did drive by that storefront on Belle Mead and all of the stores are rented.
If you are still interested in looking around, FM and I can email you a local commerical brokerage house that might be able to help.
