My Father passed away less the a year ago and I had decided I did not want the have the ceremony in a church because of the traditinal Father walks his daughter down the isle..
My FH wanted the ceremony at the church so I broke down and said ok..
My dilemma..
My parents were divorced when I was young and my mother never remarried.. My FH wants HIS father to walk me down but Im not that close to him.. I wanted my brother to walk me down but people are telling me its strange to see that...
Bad enough I know this is going to break my heart because I always dreamed of my father walking me down..
Does anyone have any suggestion?
I was thinking of in the program to put 'Walking the bride down the isle will be the brides brother (his name which is the same as my fathers) in memory of (My fathers name)
Does anyone think thats corny?

No...i think your brother walking you down the aisle is the best idea. Do what you want. I personally woud not feel comfortable with FH's dad walking me down the aisle.

i think that is nice if your brother walks you down .. you want it to be someone special and if you aren't to close to FH dad than I would pick someone you are close with .. as in your brother it seems .. i don't think that saying is corny at all .. i am sorry for your loss i don't know what i would do if i didn't have my dad so what ever you feel will make your special day more special in honoring your dad i say do .. who cares what others think .. he was your dad ..

I would have your brother or your MOTHER do it!! I know people that have done that. It is not strange at all. It's a beautiful thing! Since your father can't be there to walk you down the aisle.. your brother is the next best thing.. If I wqas in your position.. I would have my mom do it! I am having both my parents walk me down the aisle. i am so sorry about your father

I agree, you should have your brother walk you down. I think that would be really special.

second, who would say it is strange to have your brother walk you down? that is a beautiful idea. . . and putting it in the program is perfect. . .
you have to do what makes you happy and what will help you get through the day - and no one will think anything is odd about it!
as for FH's dad - that kind of doesnt make sense. . . how could he be 'giving you away' when you are not even 'his' - i know that sounds funny but i hope you know what i mean!

Re: Dilemma on who walks down the isle
do what you feel is best for YOU.
My father passed away a few years ago. I asked my uncle, who is my godfather, to walk me down. he passed a way suddenly a few months ago.
so now I have no one either. I think i will wind up asking my mom, but i dont want to ask anyone just yet - its too hard
take your time to decide. but you can chose whoever you want, there is no 'wrong' way to do it.

I think having your brother or your mother or BOTH walk you down the aisle would be the greatest way to show respect and remembrance to your father's memory..

no way have your brother walk you down the isle, do not listen to anyone telling you otherwise. Your Ffil that can be weird, but definitely not your brother.

let your brother walk you down if that's what you want. that's what my mom did (her dad died just a month or two before her wedding). your mother walking you down the isle would be just as acceptable - whoever you're closest to.

Re: Dilemma on who walks down the isle
My grandparents on my father's side are divorced, and we never really spoke to my grandfather, so when my aunt got married my uncle (the older of her two brothers) walked her down the aisle. I don't think it's strange. Your family and friends understand your situation. I think it would be nice to have your brother give you away instead of FH's father.

My FH walked his sister down the aisle. His dad passed away eight years ago. It was so sweet.

Re: Dilemma on who walks down the isle
My father has very recently passed away as well. I haven't asked anyone b/c well the whole thing ***** and I am still to upset to do it. I will walk down the isle with my mom. If I had a brother, it would be him but I have 6 sisters. No boys.
You do what you want and feel is right. This is going to be ard for you so don't let anyone, even FH, push someone on you.

i think having ur brother give u away is a fantastic idea!!! When my mother got married, her father was too ill to walk her down, so her big brother did. And my friend who's getting married this november is having her younger brother walk her down. My friend's dad passed away when she was young.

Re: Dilemma on who walks down the isle
I would go with your brother. My girlfriend did that and she said it felt great having him stand up and do it. He's your brother he's the man of the family. I'm sure it would be an honor for him. I think you should go with your brother...your mom would be proud and you would feel more comfortable. I think it would be weird to have FFIL walk you down.
