I was thinking of in the program to put 'Walking the bride down the isle will be the brides brother (his name which is the same as my fathers) in memory of (My fathers name)
Does anyone think thats corny?

I think having your brother walk you down the aisle is a great idea.

not at all...in fact, I think it's a great idea to honor your father that way. Your brother walking you down the aisle is special...and not in a rude way, but more special than a FFIL that you might not be as close to. Another idea, my cousin was in a similar situation and was walked down by her brother and mother. Do what feels right for you.

I agree I think ur bro should do it. My friend got married last July and her father passed away when she was young, so she had her brother do it..and it was beautiful

Re: Dilemma on who walks down the isle
First of all...
I absolutely do NOT think you should have your FFIL walk you down the aisle. You are not close to him and THAT is an emotional walk.
If you are close to your brother, then I would choose him to walk down the aisle with. You both share the same sense of loss and it will be nice to have someone to lean on who feels your loss as deeply as you do.
I lost my father and I will be walking with my sons. If I were not walking with my boys, I would choose my brother.
Another of my friends chose to walk alone... she took the time to reflect about her life to date and said she thought about her father and felt him next to her. At the end of the aisle she turned only slightly toward where her father would have been and gave the most minute of gestures with her head. Later she said that she felt her father with her the whole time and she actually turned to say 'Thank you and I love you'. It was very poignant.
As to the program, I don't think it sounds odd at all - however I would put in Jr. and Sr. so that people don't assume there is a typo.
Good luck dawn.

Re: Dilemma on who walks down the isle
i think you should have your brother walk you down since he is the next best thing to your father
dont let anyone tell you different..its your choice
if it makes you feel any better...i am not having a maid of honor but i having my brother as my man of honor since i dont have a sister and i didnt want to choose between my friends and cousins etc....so who cares if they think its weird..
what about your mom walking you down the aisle?

Re: Dilemma on who walks down the isle
I think your brother walking you down the isle is much better then your FFIL walking you down that you are not that close with. I dont see anything wrong or weird about it!!.
I say go for it and I also like your idea of writing that in the program.

I would definitely have your brother walk you down. He would be honored. And you can put a little thing in the program, that would be a nice memorial to your dad.

Re: Dilemma on who walks down the isle
I was going to ask you if you had a brother, then I kept reading... OF COURSE YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR BRO WALK YOU DOWN!!!! That's what I always had planned if, God forbid, my father died before my wedding day. I have 2 older brothers and my dilema was which one would I ask? But you luckily dont have that problem. ABSOLUTELY have your brother walk you down. Your father WILL be at your wedding, and I know he would be proud to see his son giving you away...

1- i would never let my fil walk me down the aisle yeah he will be your family but he is not your family family . i would either pick your brother or your mother there are plenty of girls on here who i am sure had their mother or brother walk them down the aisle.
what would be strange about having your brother walk you down?. i think having your fil walk you down would be strange . and kind of an insult to your fam JMO... AND think who would your dad pick to walk you down?
does your dad have any brothers?(uncles?) if so you have plenty of options there its your wedding and someone giving you away( to me) is very important . so you pick who you want to give you away ..

Have your brother or your mother. I've seen both done and never thought it was weird. Everyone has their own situation, do what will make you feel good.

Not corny at all. I think that will be a very nice remembrance of your dad.

Re: Dilemma on who walks down the isle
My aunt did what you are saying. Her father passed away when she was younger (16) and so in memory of him, she had my father walk her down the aisle. It meant so much to my father that he cried when she asked him (he NEVER cries). I think it's your wedding and your choice.

Let your brother walk you down. He is the closest to being your dad right now. My dad died when I was 15 and my oldest brother walked me down the aisle. Second wedding had my son walk me down. Good luck!
