That is so true. I mean, I understand this site relies on advertising, but still - to edit our posts if they are our honest opinions, that's just wrong.
People have a right to know so that maybe they will go about it differently.
Also do we have that much say in someone's biz. Like if one person had a bad experience with a DJ or photog, does that mean they will end up shutting down. I'm sure tons of LI brides are not relying on this site or our comments.
When I was booking my RH, a friend's cousin bad-mouthed the place up and down but I didn't care. I liked the way it looked and the food I tasted was fine and other people said the place was great. Everyone has a different opinion, it's what makes this a free country. Ha ha.
actually brides do rely on this site for recommendations...many of us booked vendors that we heard about on LIW, if it wasnt for LIW i wouldve booked completely different vendors...and yeah if someone sees a negative review that might prevent them from booking them

Just my thoughts, Do not use A.D.A. Photography. My girlfriend used them recently and they lost her proofs and gave her a hard time about getting her money back. Let's see how long this post lasts lol.

yes they pay for the site---but i can not tell you how many times brides post after their weddings saying 'i felt disappointed with this vendor after my wedding--and i had read so many glowing things about them' a lot of times its because posts are pulled....and then you don't get the whole story.
and yes ppl should chk with the bbb -- but not every single person goes to bbb for an issue with a vendor. if the issue is something like 'i felt their customer service was lacking because of ....x y z' or 'on the big day they had made some mistakes and didn't put the right flowers here and there...make sure if you deal with so - and -so that you keep on that' why shouldn't those types of posts stay around as a 'heads up' to others? those are the types of posts i am talking about.
ETA: btw--i do remember a post that was pulled about a certain limo company after a bride used them and gave a detailed and honest review about them as a warning. she didn't bash them---she gave facts about how they left guests behind at her wedding instead of taking them back to the hotel as per their agreement, and other information. guess what? that got pulled because the vendor told LIW to pull it.. you know what? a few months later that company was featured on 7 on your Side on Eyewitness News, had MULTIPLE complaints...and was even fined and had one of their limos confiscated.
I completely agree with you, LIW is doing a disservice to their users by not allowing negative posts. At the end of the day, they need to determine where their best interests lie, with the user or the vendor. If the posts are too one sided in favor of the vendors, they will lose credibility with the very users their service is meant to assist.
Honestly, I would be very concerned about a vendor who was so sensitive to negative feedback that they would request censorship. It makes me question their commitment to their product. Negative feedback is the best way to improve your services, if you don't get any, how would you know what you are doing wrong!?! But I guess that's just me!
without the vendors there would be no 'US' if they decide to side with us and abandon their vendors then how would they pay to keep this site? well they could charge us thats how, but im sure alot of ppl wouldn't like that. LIW doesnt do events and keep this running for free, it costs money and the only way they make their money is through advertisement
I'm agreeing with you, but they also need to maintain the integrity of their service. Don't get me wrong, they walk a very fine line between the interests of their users and their vendors.
I'll launch another grenade into the mix, how dependent are the vendors on LIW? I'd be willing to bet that most vendors will not abandon LIW for allowing negative reviews. I'd say they are pretty dependent on LIW as a major resource in targeting their audience: us!
hey i agree and wish we could post negative reviews, looking at it from the business side you realize why they get deleted, not saying its right bc hey when it comes down to most businesses and even politics things are not done right. It is unfortunate bc it can prevent brides from dealing with a vendor that will disappoint them.
yes some vendors do rely on LIW and know just how much business they get bc of it. There are a few who wouldn't care bc they get lots of business regardless...but the business will still try to use the upper hand since they are using their money. It can be turned around on them and have it said that if they dont conduct business in a certain way that they wont be able to advertise anymore...i dont know what the policy is, im sure there has to be something bc some vendors are banned

Melissa i have to agree with you 100000% on this. I had asked a while back, what the point of a review is if we are only allowed to post nice things? its doesnt tell me who wasnt a good vendor so i can stay away. Im having a HUGE issue rightnow with a wondor that all the girls RAVE about and im so regretting ever using this vendor. i guess it just hypocritical and SUX!!!

exactly! the vendors make the service free by paying to advertise, but the users create a valuable medium for advertisement. brides are just as important, and if the reputation of the site declines because their business practices are unethical, then advertising sales go with it because the usefulness of the site to users is compromised by censorship.

i heart LIW--without a doubt. its a great site and it helped me alot with my wedding.
HOWEVER there is ONE thing that is a constant annoyance , and its been talked about a great deal...but i'll be yet another one to post about it.
it really stinks that ppl post OPINIONS and stories about vendors on here...concerning their experience dealing with them....and said vendors have the power to tell the moderators to remove it.
i guess opinions only count if they are saying 'nice' things about a paying vendor here. its too bad that brides ca not get real opinions on things and find out any negative experiences, cause if a vendor is scouring the boards to find out if anyone bad mouthed them---and is just constantly telling the mods to delete the posts...how is that fair??? (and don't get me started about how shady it is that vendors are LOOKING for comments about them on here)

you are right - that wouldn't be fair - it's a good thing that this is not what happens! yes, some posts are pulled but not for what you are stating. remember, there are two sides to every story. we have addressed this numerous times so if you search you should find our past comments. but in the meantime here are some thoughts. if people come on the site just to try and discredit a vendor because they are having a communication problem then the post will be removed. this is a message board and not a sounding board. repeated posts in a retaliation or vendetta type will be removed. non factual opinion posts made for the purpose of defaming someone will be removed. (you can consult the rules by clicking 'Rules' above). the purpose of these boards are for brides to help brides and not for brides to bash someone - let it be vendor or anyone else. do some things slip by? yes! are we perfect? heck no! we do the best we can with the facts we have. in many cases facts that are not released to the general public. i hope this has helped to calm some rumors. i am locking this thread because this topic may only lead to heated drama. if you have any concerns you can FM me directly!
