Distant family invites

Distant family invites

So many dilemmas....my father has asked me to invite his cousins to my wedding. Nothing against these people, I just never EVER see them. Unless at a wedding every few years. My father speaks to them once in a while but they never get together. At first this was no problem I was going to do it for him but now as funds are getting lower I am reconsidering. We are paying for the wedding on our own and Im not sure I want to invite anyone that we never see because its awkward.

Is anyone else in this position? Im not sure what to do...

Is he willing to kick in the extra $$ to cover them? If you are paying for it yourselves, you should be able to tell your dad that you just cant swing it.

What about asking him to pay for his distant relatives. If he would like them to be there he should be willing to kick in some funds.

do you think they'll go? We got so many more No's than I expected, so now I'm glad I didn't fight too hard against some of the extras my parents and FMIL wanted. At the time it didn't bother me at all because they literally only asked for six more people.

it's the people that i didn't want to invite but was forced to that bugged me!!

There are a few more that I know will not come...it probably comes out to like 10 extra that I know def will. Im not sure its the money, its more awkward for me than anything else. I just feel like whats the point of inviting people to your wedding that you never see.... On my side I really didnt invite distant family members. FH side is a totally different story

i felt that exact same way. I was adamant that I have to know every single person at my wedding. one of my friends mentioned she was casually dating someone and I was like bring him if you want but i really don't want some random at my wedding who i have never met.

but at least they are cousins. I didn't invite all my parents cousins - only one set on my dad's side that we still see all the time. and they have TONS of cousins but my parents were cool with that. I think if it's really important to him, you might just want to invite them.

I am not inviting distant cousins. I don't know many of them and neither do my parents.

Is money even really the issue with your distant cousins?

I would rather not spend the money if I dont have to. I'll suck it up for my father. I just think its pointless

um, my mother asked me to invite a group of her cousins who I never even met maybe once when I was like 2. But, they live oot so hopefully they won't come. I would just invite them if you dad is willing to pay for them.

Well if he wants you to do it out of courtesy, than why not send them part of the invite.

I had pocketfolds. So what I did, is that I had the designer make the main part of the invite and sent them that instead of the whole invite. Does that make sense?
