I am trying to make a card box and need some input on anyone who has already made theirs. I bought the paper mâché boxes from Joanne's that are 8,9,10 inches. My friend told me she doesn't think the cards will fit. I'm having approx 100people at my wedding so I don't see me getting more the 50-75 cards. Does anyone know how many cards would fit in this box or do I need to get bigger boxes? I'm also going to paint them. Has anyone done this and if so how did it turn out with the paint?

Re: DIY card box question
I got a 3-pack of oval boxes from Michaels like this:
Thank you! It was my first DIY project. I didn't have the heart to smash it open after the wedding, so I painstakingly removed all our cards using tweezers to get the envelopes out. LOL.
Dande - It held 35 envelopes of various sizes with no problem at all.

DIY card box question - Long Island Weddings
I bought the same boxes from Joannes. I painted them with acrylic paint. I used a pearl white and royal blue. It took 3 coats of paint. I love the paint. I am still in the process of making it. Once I am done I will post a picture. We are having around 200 people at our wedding. Therefore I used the 3 big boxes. It should hold all the envelopes. I haven't decided where I am going to put the slit for the cards...whether it will be on the top box on in the front.

I wouldn't bother getting that, you can buy the same box and a razor to cut the hole for cheaper at joann's or michael's. Make sure to use coupons.

It took 2.5 bottles to get full coverage. I mixed 1/2 bottle of pearlized paint in for a little shimmer.

I painted them with navy blue acrylic paint (took 3 coats to get good coverage) and I think it turned out pretty well.
Beautiful card box! Great job!

DIY card box question - Long Island Weddings
Simba301 Love it! I started mine this weekend but I'm using fabric. I looked in Joanne's, but found our fabric in Walmart - waaaayyy cheaper. I did use white acrylic paint as a base, 3 coats - that looked really nice. I probably could have done it with a nice gold paint.

DIY card box question - Long Island Weddings
We are thinking of getting boxes that look like books from Amazon. There were some nice sets for only about $35 or so. They can be used again at home for storage and fit in with the decor where the other types would have to be sold or thrown out afterward as there is nothing we can use them for.
