Has anyone done the DIY Invitation kits? Is it easy or a pain in the butt? I need input please. I'm wondering if I should take this task on or is it more of a hassle. I'm trying to save some money in this area.

Re: DIY Michaels Invites
I did DIY invitations from Michaels. My FH and I bought the kits when they were on clearance and on a day that they honored a coupon on sale items; I don't think they cost more than $30. At first I thought it was going to be a huge pain in the butt but it turned out to be a lot easier than I thought. I also needed to slow down and not let my enthusiasm get ahead of me. I have two pieces of advice: do everything one at a time when you run them through the printer and if you have any questions, email the company. Our invitations were Brides, I think, but the company that I emailed was Gartner Studios. Gartner Studios turned out to be one of the best things/companies. They respond, they offer suggestions and they replaced, for free, when something went wrong (not with the invites but our programs). FM me if you'd like to chat more.

I did them myself from michaels as well. And yes they were def easier than expected. I agree with pp, take your time! I made a few silly mistakes bc I was so excited to be doing them. I even did each individual envelope through the printer too. ;) I loved my invites and total with coupons I spent 60 bucks!

Thanks ladies. Did you buy invitations that had details like rhinestones or flaps. How does that work?

Re: DIY Michaels Invites
I used DIY Michael's invites. They were very simple. The templates were easy to find online and tweak to your needs. They printed easily. I decided to make them more difficult than they had to be by hand 'flocking' (that raised, velvety feel) the damask design on each invite- response card and all. That took forever, but it was worth it. They looked phenomenal.

The details would have to be added on after printing.

Re: DIY Michaels Invites
I used the Bride's DIY kit from Michael's as I loved the design and refused to spend alot of money on invites. It was pretty easy to do, and I banged out all the printing in a couple hours one afternoon.
These are the ones I purchased:

Re: DIY Michaels Invites
My cousin used Michaels Invites for her wedding (most of the stuff she DIYed from there because she got a giant discount as manager, lucky!!) and they came out very well...I don't remember what brand they were, but I still have it. It was a pocket fold with spaces for reception, hotel, after party, etc info cards and came in a petal envelope. She doctored them up with some cute scrapbook paper details.

Re: DIY Michaels Invites
I had a flat invite so it was simple for printing. but a couple of suggestions - -
I cut paper the size of the invite, RSVP card envelope etc and ran tests on these so I didn't waste and invite if my template wasn't quite right. Doing this you can also play with the fonts, sizes and see what looks best when it is actually printed.
I found some images that I added to the RSVP card so it wasn't plain and it match the floral on the invite. So you can look for things that coordinate and try putting them on the corners etc, or make a border - - if you have the time to play with these things.
Mine were printed on vellum so I had to play with what type paper to tell the printer it was so it would dry and not smear - - some girls had said they had drying time issues with vellum so I was prepared. I found out that my printer gives 2 different blacks - - if you use the color cartridge it's one way and if you used black it comes out different . One was fainter than the other and didn't look as good. So you might want to see if this happens with your printer. HTH

Re: DIY Michaels Invites
I did them for my sister's bridal shower, my first small wedding and my daughter's baptism. They were very easy to do and I think they came out fantastic each time.

I did this ... It was a bit of a pain but do-able in the end I was unhappy with the print quality but that was my own fault. They came out pretty well.

Re: DIY Michaels Invites
I did them as well from Micheals. They were decently easy, but if you wanted to print addresses you need to make sure it isn't a thick envelope(mine was so I did large clear labels because I hated what it came with) Also mine had ribbons to tie around the invite and my lovely mother sat there doing these for hours. You have to tie them a certain way to get the bow to lie flat. These are my only two things to look for but they came out very nice and it wasn't too bad!
