So apparently an urban radio host declared to NYC that she was a racist and went on to say whenever she sees an interracial couple in the street that she hates them both, and she seems to think nothing of it.105.1 was the station.
'I made a confession of my own,' Mays said yesterday. 'I said I was concerned about interracial relationships when the African-American community has our own inner work and healing to do. If I see a white woman dating an African-American man, I feel, as do many African-American women, that there is one less black man available to us.' She claimed she was the victim of a 'climate of pins and needles' stemming from the firestorm over indecency following the Janet Jackson and Howard Stern controversies.'I wasn't speaking against anybody,' Mays said. 'I was just being honest. Unfortunately, the industry is under FCC scrutiny and the climate is ripe for reactionary measures.
Well my issue is why do people think that they can truly say whatever they want at any time? Do you think they should be able to, I mean some of us on here say things but we never got fired because of it? They are human too right? Do you think she should have gotten fired?

Absolutely they have the right to fire her, just like my job has the right to impose there dress code and code of conduct on to me , and If I don't follow I will be fired, so why not her why is it different that is what i don't understand.

The problem is now everything is going to be blamed on Freedom of Speech and the FCC crackdown and the government and Janet Jackets ugly boob. We need to look at each individual situation and judge what is happening. It's the station's perogative to fire her. We have yet to see if she gets a fine from the FCC which I doubt since she wasn't indecent, just an idiot.

Well, I believe that she has accomplished her goal. She is now more famous and talked about then she used to be. I had never even heard of her before. I am sure that the radio station is benefiting from all of this also.

You are so right and guess what, she'll end up at Hot 97 or another Urban station somewhere with a real talk show or maybe even a daytime TV show ... that is exactly what happens! As for the radio station, it's owned by Clear Channel. They do not want/need any more publicity regarding sensorship. I'm sure of that.

Re: DJ fired for being racist
I never said the radio station did not have the right to fire her. Someone asked if she should have been fired and in my opinion they should not have fired her for saying something they did not like, especially since it was so quick that I am not even sure there was any backlash. We are moving towards DJs not being allowed to say ANYTHING and just playing music. I personally enjoy talk radio, and I will miss it when it is gone.
After Boob-Gate I was listening to a hip hop station and they were discussing the whole incident. A lot of African-American's were saying that they were horrified that any African-American woman would allow some young white boy to dance with her like that, let alone touch her and thay she had no business interacting with a white boy in that manner.
I didn't necessarily agree with those people, but it was interesting to me to hear their opinions. I would like to continue to be exposed to different opinions like that because it makes me think.
There is a real trend towards a bland, certain not to offend ANYONE form of free speech that has not existed in my lifetime. And that worries me.

Does anyone listen to the station? I wonder if there was any backlash and what people are saying. I didn't read anything about it today until i saw this post so I wonder if people made a stink of it or if it's just us LOL Clear Channel now has a zero-tolerance policy and Infinity put one into effect this week so you're going to see this more and more.

Yes we may be leaning towards a more restrictive policy however is what we have now working??? No so we are doomed regardless.

I think the radio industry is just fine. Its the television industry error that brought us a naked boob in the middle of the Super Bowl Half-Time Show.

That is my concern. Hearing people of differing views makes me think about both theirs and my own. Hiding and trying to keep the woes of our society under wraps as to not offend is not helping. It henders growth and understanding. I fear this trend.

Re: DJ fired for being racist
That has nothing to do with Howard or this, it is people being sick and tired of being sick and tired of this crap every TV show every radio show is filled with trash it is depressing. So what there was a boob do I agree (not sure) but I find a boob less offensive then, I hate white people and when I look at a racial couple I hate them um sounds like some brewing trouble to me. Never the less people are just sick of it so the boob thing was an example Howard was an example this Dj was an example Opie and Anthony was an example , examples of peoples fustration was it unconstitutional NO because I didn't want to here it so why did I have to ???

I guess I don't find it offensive. I find it a sad fact spoken by a closeminded individual. As far as having to hear or see anything, I choose the programming that I watch and listen too. I can just as easily choose not to participate if I find the material offensive.

I agree. I think that painting a rosey picture to make people feel good breeds ignorance.

I think hearing different views and listening to different opinions is a good thing. Maybe we're arguing some of the same point. I just believe that it should be in the correct platform is all. I think ADULTS and people of SOUND MIND should be allowed to choose what they want to see/hear/speak and deal with the fallout/backlash. I just don't think it should be done on a platform where anyone from a 5 year old to a 50 year old can see/hear. Age appropriate behavior is key. Movies have G, PG, PG-13, R, X, XXX for a reason. The airwaves don't have that kind of policing right now. We are used to the radio owners policing themselves.

Not arguing with you, in fact I agree with you on many points.
