Re: dj or band
I like a great Band. I am not getting a band only b/c the one I wanted was out of my price range. So I got a D.J. with extras

Re: dj or band
We are having both. A jazz trio for CH and dinner and then a DJ for dancing/annoucements, etc. We were able to get each for only a few hours.

Re: dj or band
i love live music, so we're going with a band. 10 people having a great time on stage should def get the crowd dancing!
you can always add pieces to a dj though. i was at a wedding that had a dj and added live percussion, which sounded pretty good.

Re: dj or band
If I attend a wedding and there is a DJ, I know will always have a great time and dance a lot. If there is a band, it's a hit or miss.

Re: dj or band
band- I highly recommend VISION a Franklin Wayne band. They did an incredible job at my wedding and the dance floor was PACKED the entire night!

Re: dj or band
FH and I would have liked to hire a band, but we just couldn't justify spending more on that than our honeymoon.
so we're having a DJ.
ETA: the one and only downside to a band (aside from the $$$$$) is that often times people think that it's karaoke night or open mic night! I went to a few weddings where this happened. at 1 particular wedding there was a LINE for speeches that lasted a 1/2 an hour

Re: dj or band
if $$ is no consideration, I say band...nothing like dancing your first dance to live music.

That's how I feel too. We had a band and I loved them. But, if we were having money issues, that would have been one of the first things I cut.
And just as there are bad bands, there are some awful DJs out there too, and I've seen some!

I've always liked DJ's better... I'm going to start looking & i definitely will be adding live pieces. You get the best of both worlds that way.. and it is cheaper!!

Re: dj or band
You really have to have a great Band, for people to really get up and dance. I was at two wedding with just okay bands. (I didn't feel like dancing at all). Then I went to a wedding with a terrific band (Danced all night).
Same goes for DJ's. Some DJ are horrible and play awful music, and some just know the right music to get everyone up dancing.
I know if I would of picked a band, it would of been a very expensive one, I can't afford 8 to 10k, so I went with a DJ.
What I always hate about bands is they try to play new hip music, and it really never sounds good. A band trying to play Gwen Steffani, NO.

Re: dj or band
Bands are great because of the live music but I honestly prefer a DJ because I like hearing the songs by the original artists.....just my preference.
