I am really undecided about this. I always wanted a band from the start but after looking into the cost I'm not sure it's something we can afford. We've gone back on forth on this topic and have no idea what to do. I like how a DJ can play more modern music and stuff but honestly I find them to be really cheesey with all the colored lights and stuff. Maybe it's just been at the weddings I've seen but I feel like the DJ belongs at a Bar/Bat Mitzvah or sweet sixteen. I know tons of girls on here are using DJ's though. If I had the money hands down I would do the band. What do you think? There's really not much we can cut back on either to make up the difference

Re: DJ or Band??
We went with a band and cut back on the flowers. If you want a really good band that plays a variety of music (rock, jazz, sinatra, dance). Check out LI Paramount (they are a LIW vendor) the band Renegade. Samples are available on the site.

Re: DJ or Band??
I am using a DJ and used one for our engagement party as well. I prefered a DJ hands down - FH didnt, but, that was my choice.
If you reallyyyy want a band maybe you can cut back somewhere else like flowers or something else??

Re: DJ or Band??
Bands are classy, however, regardless of how good the band is, people always seem to have much more fun with a DJ. I booked Bravura for my DJ and what I loved immediately about them is that they are not 'cheesy' at all. Very professional and they tell you that they dont do cheesey DJ things. I added the live Jazz trio for cocktail hour and they are very affordable. But you must do what makes you happy.

Re: DJ or Band??
Used DJ on my wedding day with a percussionist. It was phenomenal.
Just like you, I always wanted a live band....but my budget could not afford it....so I added a percussionist to my DJ and it turned out awesome!

*****UPDATE*****
FH and I went to check out a band last night at their showcase. It was a band people spoke highly of on here. Honestly I was not impressed. I don't know if it was the band or not but I think I'm going to miss the music I like most because it doesn't sound the same. For example they did a Justin Timberlake song and it just sounded so wierd. Don't get me wrong they were entertaining....but I can't see our 50 or so friends all in our early 20's dancing all night to it. Maybe I should give up on the band idea and go for a DJ?? Any suggestions for a DJ that might have a singer or some instruments I can add to it. I know FM is already booked.

Re: DJ or Band??
Dane Jock Productions has singers and live musicians that can be added.
I agree about the whole DJ with lights and an mc thing...not my cup of tea. I got a band and they can play everything so I am really happy with my decision. Its all a matter of preference though.
