So here's my thing. We've decided to have a DJ. Mostly because we are sentimental with songs and like the fact that we can hear them from the original artist..and also because it is cheaper than a band :)
Here is my dilemma. I've met with two DJ's so far. They were recommended by friends, but I don't think they are for us.
I really want someone who will be as classy as a band. I am not into the lights and smoke machine. I also don't want an MC who is going to talk so much. Not that there is anything wrong those things, just not our taste.
I know my crowd will dance...so I don't think we need a DJ who will have to pump everyone up to dance.
Does anyone know of a DJ whose a bit more on the low key side? And on another note...do you think if we go with a lower key MC/DJ it will be boring and less entertaining?
Does this make any sense?? Thanks ladies, would appreciate any type of feedback!

Re: DJ STRESS!
I think if you know your crowd doesn't need too much hype, just book a basic DJ w/no MC. We booked Tommy Tunes, and they always come highly reccomended. They'll basically cater to your needs and provide you with different packages and prices.
My friend also used fifth generation...(I think, generation something...) they were pretty good too. not to intrusive. But again they will do whatever suites your needs.
good luck!

Your concern completely makes sense, considering i am looking for the same type of D.J, although i am not looking for one just yet. My friend is using High Voltage and she says that they cater to individual needs and are not into any of that commercial stuff that other D.J try to sell you. Hope this helps!

We wanted the same things, and booked Vinny from High Voltage Sounds - he's a vendor in here.

Re: DJ STRESS!
I don't want anything showy either, I just don't want my guests to feel like they're at a club. So we booked LI Sound, they made me feel comfortable at their showcase and I didn't get the feeling that they were 'trying too hard'. I just enjoyed listening to them and knew they were the right choice.

Re: DJ STRESS!
I am using Ralph from Hi-Energy he is a vendor on here, I have seen him at a couple of other weddings and he was great, he gets the party moving but is not on the mic all night

You make total sense, FI wants a non-intrusive MC as well, no giveaways or elaborate lighting, and definitely no electric slide!
We're searching out our House DJs first and may search out others if neccessary. Since we're just starting our appointments, I can't really offer any recommendations just yet, but I can always follow up afterwards. I think we're just going to go over exactly what we would like and go with our gut on it. I've gotten a lot of recommended DJs, so hopefully we'll find something that fits.

Re: DJ STRESS!
We are using FM Entertainment (and so is my MOH). They are a newer LIW vendor, so they don't have many reviews.
What is great about them is the DJ/MC actually perform for you when you go meet with him. He walks through the entire night, showing how he handles different situations. He was able to tone his personality up or down instantly to suit my needs. I highly recommend meeting with him. Plus the prices are great.

You make perfect sense! This is exactly why we chose Vinny from High Voltage Sounds. We only booked him because we didn't want a MC. And he has received many rave reviews on this board. I think you should definitely make an appointment to meet with him.

Re: DJ STRESS!
I was looking for something similar. I met with Vinny from high voltage and Music by Michael. Both were great.
