i see that most people on this site have gone with DJ's over bands. is it just a price thing?? FH and i really HATE DJ's all together so when the time comes (after we book a hall lol) we are going to have to look for a cheap band that sounds good. any suggestions?

I love dj's...unless you really know the work of the band it could be a disaster...music is a big part of the day and I would not want to chance it...the one band I saw in Boston was great buut they were in the 10,000 range...they were amazing.

Bands are definitely more expensive, Franklyn Wayne music company as four bands that you can look at. They are a 9 piece band and they sound awesome.

Re: DJ vs Band?
The one thing FH insisted upon was a band. We went with Niteflight (they are a vendor on here). They are wonderful, 9 pieces and they don't have an outside agent representing them so they are more reasonable than some other bands.
Check them out!

I really like my band Soul Revival, they are the only vendor I have booked besides my hall and I am very happy!! We were unsure we could afford a band, and they were able to work within our budget, and have been great. www.soulrevivalband.com

Re: DJ vs Band?
I actually like both- I have been to weddings where the band was terrible- and have been to weddings where the DJ was terrible... BUT vice versa too- I figured when else am I going to have a celebration and use a band??? Probably never, so why not do it now- I found one I Love- HEart and Soul from Franklin Wayne - They are awesome I have been in contact with them a great deal, heard them several times... I also like daybreaks night- : )
Good luck searching

Re: DJ vs Band?
I'm all about bands. I'm not a big fan of DJ's at weddings...........if you hate DJ's, go with the band. The music at my wedding was so important to me and my husband. I am SO happy that I got a band for my wedding, there is nothing like live music at a reception. It's worth the extra money! You can definitely cut back in other areas and put the money towards the band. I was at a barbque the other day and someone that was at our wedding brought up how good the band was at our wedding (almost 2 years later).
I used The Mystic and they were amazing! The dance floor was packed all night. Their website is www.themysticmusic.com. They play in Freeport every Thursday night at Hudson and McCoy.

Re: DJ vs Band?
My husband's one request was to have a band...I honestly wanted a DJ...we ended up booking The Projekt & could not have been happier with our decision!!! You should check them out!!! They kept our dance floor packed the entire night & there were times we actually needed to see if it was them actually singing because they sound identical to the original!!!

Re: DJ vs Band?
I was just at my friends wedding recently and they had a band that was amazing! Personally, we are going with a DJ because we love music so much that we don't want to hear anyone else's interpretation of the songs we love! Also, what are the reasons you hate DJ's? Is it a cheesiness factor? If so, we found a DJ that will simply sit back, play the music, and only speak when necessary for announcements and such. We are not having an MC. Is it the MC part that you don't like? There were many factors going into our decision of a DJ.. one of which was $$$!

Re: DJ vs Band?
Bands are definitely far more pricey than a DJ...I've seen one band that had I not been predisposed to not liking them, I would've considered...but in the end, being able to play rare/unheard of special songs and the version of certain songs that we prefer is key to our decision.....a live band is cool.....but if I want to hear an indy band's song, it's likely a band won't know it....a DJ will at least play it from a CD I give him....ultimately, this is why we went with a DJ....the price certainly helped as well.
BUT if you prefer bands, that's your thing....it's your wedding. I think typically bands on LI start around $5k....that's the cheapest we found.

Re: DJ vs Band?
I went with a DJ because it's what I preferred. Especially since my wedding is on the smaller side (100 people).
Sounds like you really want a band though. So shop around and budget so you can work it in. Your wedding day is all about what YOU want !!!

Re: DJ vs Band?
I went with a DJ because I dont like bands.. had nothing to do with price. I would never consider a band for any of my parties - thats just my style. I didnt even want them to add the two instrumentals to my package - but my FI wanted it so bad.
However, there are ppl who booke Dj beucase they were cheaper, but not everyone. If you hate DJ's I would go with a band- but be ready to spend.

We used Timepiece which a part of Fanklyn Wayne Music. They have 5 different bands most of tem are 9 pieces and one of them is a 10 piece. If you go the their website you can actually listne to samples of each of the bands and their members.

We are using the band Code Bleu. We were planning to use a DJ for monetary reasons but after seeing them perform at a showcase we LOVED them.

i agree, i NEVER put down DJs b/c everyone is different and i have gone to functions that have bands and i have gone to others with DJs and had GREAT times at both places-- but for me, i love live music and it was worht the money to me. we went with heart and soul which is also franklin wayne-- his bands are in the 6 thousand dollar range and IMO, that is not unreasonable for ten musicians, for the length of time that they are playing and how talented they are-- b/c it's a lot of work and i feel they deserve what they get paid.
my FBIL is a musician and to see the amount of talent he has and (when he plays a gig) what goes into it-- i understand why they are the prices that they are. so, for us, it was a band and we sprung the extra money-- but it's all about preference. also, music CHOICE is a biggie-- i've been to a wedding with a DJ that was so great and then I went to another wedding with a band (very talented band too, what a shame) but poor POOR music selection (YAWN)... so you never know! good luck in your decision honey!

Re: DJ vs Band?
We picked a band just b/c we didnt want the whole DJ scene. It's up to what you want. You can find a band for 6,000 if you search
