DJs Help

Hey girls! so i sort of already posted this on the 2011 board but maybe I can get some more responses here...

i'm starting to look into DJs and I have limited time while i'm NY for the holidays sooo I don't want to run around like crazy...any suggestions on Dj companies?? any personal experiences with the following:

FM
After Hours
Tommy Tunes
Starlight Express
Parties Alive
Body Rock
Elegancia

I want to keep my list fairly short. Any others we should look into? We really don't want to spend more than 3,500 max with some live elements, like maybe a percussionist and some uplighting...I 'm really concerned about having good music to keep a party going on a Sunday afternoon/evening. Thanks everyone!! Feel free to FM me any personal experiences.

I just saw Starlight Express at a bridal expo at Woodbury Country Club last week and let me tell you they were so amazing.. A girl at my job also had them earlier this year and said that was one of her best vendors.

We booked tommy's tunes. I haven't been to a wedding with them but we were so impressed with their videos and other ppl we met raved about them. They have been super easy to work with so far. You could def get what you want for that price.

I havent booked a DJ yet so I am also doing research. I already met w Elegancia. They seem to be good, have decent reviews but their prices rae kinda high. Their basic package (no lighting) starts at $1,075. With lighting and MC, it goes up to $2,000 and higher. With plasma projection screens, to about $ 4K.
Other than the prices, they seem pretty solid.

I also have contacted Ultimate Sounds which seem to offer a very good price ($1,600 which includes smart lighting)...

Definitely give Tommy's Tunes a call. He was awesome and we got a lot of additional things and he worked with us.

I saw After Hours yesterday at a Bridal Expo yesterday and thought they were pretty great. I wasn't a fan of the band as much as the DJ option - but I do like that they offer a lot of additional things and upgrades.

Like a drummer to go a long with the DJ - they have lighting packagaes and even a steel drum option of the cocktail hour (amongst other things).

I thought the prices were reasonable - and they seem super professional. It was the first stage for me in the DJ process but they are definitely one I am going to look into further.

we booked with tommy's tunes. we felt really comfortable with them after the initial meeting, and i felt even better after hearing them at a showcase. not only that but a coworker of mine used them at her wedding 5 or 6 years ago and said they were amazing and that she's been to about 6 family events that have used them and they've been fantastic every time! and a different co-worker just went to a wedding about a month or two ago and they were the dj's there and she said they were amazing.

Re: DJs Help

I met with Starlight Express and they did a wedding I went to at JT on Nov 7. The music they played was great they kept the dance floor packed. Their lighting is set up with columns which kind of takes up room on the floor. I also went to a wedding with Body Rock. Starlight Express was better in my opinion.

I went with Dash of Class, a DJ based in Staten Island and Brooklyn. My sister used them and they were excellent. If I lived in Long Island I would have probably went with Starlight.

We booked with Body Rock! I've heard great things about them, the price is right, and I looooooove their percussionist!

I just went to a showcase for Bravura and they were very good and have a lot of live elements that can be added to CH or the reception.

You should check out Long Island Sound!! They're very professional and they have an awesome showcase room in the back where you can see all the lighting options in action!
