I am so tired of dropping 140+ and 3 hours every three months to get my hair done. I was thinking of just using boxed dye and getting rid of my highlights. If you dye your own hair, what do you use? TIA (I will probably just chicken out and continue getting it done knowing me . . .)

i've done it many, many, many times... i've even had my mom do highlights (she's not a beautician!) i love it. i would never pay to have it done.

I generally use whatever is on sale. I have used Preference, Hydrience, Nutrisse, Feria (all permanent) and Natural Instincts (semi-perm.) I've never had a problem with any of them. I don't do highlights and I'm not too particular about the color (as long as it is medium to dark brown) so I don't see the need to pay someone to do it for me.

i dye my own hair. Usually i just use Loreal Colorspa because i don't want roots, and i just want a little boost. But ive tried Hydrience and Feria. Both good but i liked Feria. Also heard Nutrisse is good too.

I use Garnier Nutrisse and I love it. I've also tried Feria -- that was good, too.

It's a little more expensive that most at-home dyes, but I've used Colour Expert by Loreal twice alraedy and people swear that I've had it professionally dyed! I love it so much - I actually need to do a touch up now that I think of it! It's about $20 I think, but it's dye and highlights all in one and it's really just foolproof and gives you beautiful results.

I ALWAYS dye my own hair. The one time I went to a salon to get it done, it killed my hair and I had to wait almost a year for all the dead, dry hair to grow out! I get so many compliments on my hair from people, so I guess it can't look too bad!

When I do dye my own hair, I use a semi-permanent...just to give it a boost.
Highlights: I always have my hairdresser take care of...but after that, I usually mess around with it on my own, and have always been happy with the results.

i used to dye it on my own, but i like to pretend i'm a redhead, and the color always comes out too bright when i do it myself.....by the time it gets to the color i like, the roots are growing in..... so now i just go to get it done and it looks the color i want it to be all the time

Next time you are in the store, check out the Clairol Hydrience boxes...there is a redhead who is on one of the boxes for red hair (i'll find out the name of the color), who is a good friend of my family.
OK, that's my claim to fame!

I've used it too! It's actually not that difficult. I had my hair cut shortly after using it once and my hair stylist was shocked that I did it myself.

I use Nutresse and I really like it. I am cheap so I keep looking at the Loreal Colour Expert stuff, but I never buy it.
