LIKE your FMIL?? I don't, but I'm just curious as to how many of you do. It seems to me that most of the FMIL's are in need of some help.

I do like her. We get along well. She is very good about giving us our space. She does not interfere or make judgment about our wedding or anything else. I love her for raising such a good man.

My sentiments toward my FMIL exactly!!

originally, both FMIL and FFIL were pains in the #$%#$%#. They presumed they knew 'what I'm like' when they didn't at all. They were PO'ed that FH wasn't marrying a younger girl (I'm several years older), and a Pole. I'm first generationGerman-American. FFIL also hates Germans, so that wasn't exactly endearing either... Basically, they disliked me for how/when I was born, not anything reasonable, like character, morals, or behavior.

Now, FMIL understands our relationship. (She realizes I'm a lot like her, actually.... Manage household with an iron fist, but tempt people with some rather good home cooking). They also realize that Poles and germans aren't that different... so they've warmed up to me...

but boy did they make it hard for me to like them the first several years!!!!

Yup, she's great. BUT she lives in California so I only see her on holidays - we don't spend enough time together to try each others' patience, I guess!

I like her. I think we could have a better relationship, but she's nice to me, and always respects me. She also acknowledges me and says nice things to me. It is hard for me bc she's always calling FH and I can't stand momma's boys, but I just keep my mouth shut and deal w/ it, and just treat her the same way she treats me.

I don't DISLIKE my FMIL... I just do not understand her. I get stressed out because we are just SO not on the same level. And it is weird because she is similar to my own mom in a lot of ways... just not in some of the 'critical' ways.

I mean - I love her and I appreciate her much of the time - but some of the things she does are just so mind boggling! But they are mostly wedding related. I would probably enjoy her more if there were no wedding!!!!

i do!! shes been a big help (for the most part) in the wedding process, emotionally and financialy. i am also lucky to have a wonder FSIL who is my MOH.

I love my FH parent but don't get along with his sister. She is a controlling freak. Whatever she says we much do or she throw cry/scream/tantrum...mind you she is 34 years old mother of 3.
