Pretty much everyone in my family has had one and I had decided to get one too, but I switched halls and my hall is already way out of my price range.
I also feel like there is more than enough food since there is already
-a 90 min cocktail hour -salad course and appetizer (which i will prop do as a combo) -pasta course -choice of 8 entrees -dessert (tiramisu, most likely) -cake -viennese trays at every table (fruit and pastries) -cordials and espresso -chocolate fountain
I feel like there is more than enough to keep my guests happy but I have been reading a few reviews of brides who are guest at other weddings saying they were disappointed to have no viennese.
To be honest, I would look for it in the budget, but I also feel it might be a waste since our wedding is on a Sunday night and some people might leave early and miss it anyway.

its not expected, but we're having one. We are huge cake & pastry fans, its a nice last impression on our guests we think.

I definetly don't expect it.. It definetly gives the wedding a better touch but it can be left out.
We are having one for ours, but we wanted the extra hour and in a large italian family we decided it would be a nice touch especaily with all the italian pasteries and such..
but the choice is up to you, and if it fits in your budget!

sounds like you have alot of dessert already and i think the VH might be overkill..
if you feel that you musttt have it..what about inquiring about 30 minutes instead of an hour? I asked a few places about this and they were willing to cut the price in half for half the time.
i also agree that most people do not stay for the whole thing.

Thanks for the input. I'm sure I can add it at the end if I find I can afford it. My family is italian and I don't think I've ever been to a family wedding without one, but I can't go broke for other people.
Also, it would be in a separate room, so it would not interrupt the party, which is good.

The last wedding i went to with the VH in a different room interuppted the party... the band stopped playing, no one danced and everyone went to... make sure that the dj or band doesnt stop playing if you do it

Ohh good point.
I am leaning toward not having it. Since it's a Sunday night, I wouldn't want to extend the party an extra hour, and it seems like it's so complicated it won't be worth the expense.

IMO- most people are full/drunk by the time desert comes at a wedding. In planning FH and I decided if we would add anything it would be to the CH when people are at their hungriest.

I would never expect one, but that was the top priority when planning my wedding only because I love desserts!!! I can bipass all the other food and just eat the dessert, they even threw in a pink cotton candy machine for me =)

I am not having one. I feel like it is a waste to be completely honest. You are already having a full cocktail hour which on LI at least, is quite filling, a three-four course dinner, and wedding cake. I feel like that is enough and I would rather not contribute to the common waste that is unfortunately part of our booming wedding industry here. If it is not really part of your budget, don't feel obligated to do it....not having one will help lower your carbon footprint anyway. If you do have one, I would try to make sure that you have a TON of guests so the food waste isn't too great. JMO

I've never had room in my stomach for VH at weddings I've been too. I think it depends on your crowd too(I always think of older people liking VH more than younger).

We had one. Granted you are having a 90 min CH and we only had an hour, but the fact that our RH provided the take home containers - all of our guests went wild with bringing home goodies! I say if you can afford it, HAVE IT! I had just posted this on another thread for someone - but you can get an idea of what a really amazing Viennese can look like - here's mine @ CLM!
