I've been to plenty of weddings and have never seen this, but heard it a lot from florists.
Personally, I think it's a little silly to take the brides CP home and hope no one does that at my wedding.
If you want flowers at home, buy them yourself. Don't take my flowers!
What do you think?
ETA: I want 30 inch square vases that the florist is ordering just for me and I told him I'd return them after the wedding. If guests take them, then I'll have to be paying for each one.

Re: Do guests REALLY take the CP home???
i've actually been to weddings where the bride or someone in her family (i.e. mom) has asked me to PLEASE take a centerpiece home....
like what could one possibly do with 20 centerpieces? definitely take one or two home for yourself, but you might as well let some family and friends take them and enjoy them for a few days... otherwise, they just go to waste, IMO.

i think the hippo is hysterical! they should make a little LIW icon with him.
I hope they dont take my centerpieces. Some of them might be way to big for them to take.

Re: Do guests REALLY take the CP home???
eek! I LOVE when I win the centerpiece at a wedding! I've won twice in the past 8 years
It's always beautiful, and it makes my apartment smell beautious for a few days!
I never imagined the bride would want to take tons of centerpieces home actually! But, really, it's your wedding, so it's all up to your personal preference

Usually you do take the CP home after the wedding. Personally I wouldnt want to take all those CPs home after the wedding...the more the people take the better

I really like the centerpieces but I would love for people to take them home. Just another little thing to remind them of a wonderful day.

Re: Do guests REALLY take the CP home???
i thought people would only take them home when they are invited to do so- like when there's a little game or something to see who gets them.
i don't plan on giving them away during the reception- like with a game or something. if anyone wants them that's fine, otherwise i'll be donating them

Re: Do guests REALLY take the CP home???
I edited my orignal post so that you can understand my situation. I'm having the florist order about 22 brand new 30 inch square vases that are supposedly very expensive. I'd rather not have my guests keep them b/c I'll have to pay for them that way. The florist said he'd let me 'rent' them from him if I gave them back.
I guess i'll have to keep an eye on the guests checking out my centerpieces for an extended period of time.

The florist takes it all. I personally don't need them at home. I think this is a cultural thing. I'm Lithuanian (Russian) and after posting this, I spoke to my Russian friends and they told me that if it's a small CP or a bucket in a vase, then some guests MIGHT take it, but most don't.

it sounds like urs are too big for people to even think about carrying out. maybe u can have ur bridal party spread the word the CP's are not to be removed.

Re: Do guests REALLY take the CP home???
the REAL reason they do that is b/c if people take home the centerpeices, it avoids a breakdown fee from the florist. This can be awkward b/c then who gets the centerpeice? Do you have women fighting for it?
A simple solutioon is to have your band announce, toward the end of the ceremony, that whoever at the table has a birthday closest to today should take home the centerepeice.
Personally, I think it's unneccessary and would rather give flowers to a charity. BUT, if your florist doesn't donate to charities, may as well let your guests have them before the garbage!

I've never been to a wedding where they DON'T take them home....Personally, If I was doing my own centerpieces I wouldn't wanna take all those things home anyway....But it's up to every bride to decide what they want or not... XOXOXO Kitty

Re: Do guests REALLY take the CP home???
I've always seen that. I can't imagine needing 16 centerpieces that I won't even be around to take care of for 3 weeks b/c we'll be on our HM. I don't care if they take them home after the wedding ends, otherwise they get thrown out and that's a big waste then.

Re: Do guests REALLY take the CP home???
I used to work for a florist for years, and it does happen some times that the florist, in order to cut down the cost for the bride, will let her use the vases for free (or a small fee) and then the vases get returned to the florist. As the original poster said, it will cut down on their florist costs.
If this is waht you plan on doing, I would have the florist let the RH know when they arrive that the vases are to be returned to the florist (or whoever is going to be picking them up to return them)
If you wanted, you can do a little game or whatever to see who wins the BQ, Minus the vase... or as you said, return the whole CP.
