I've been to plenty of weddings and have never seen this, but heard it a lot from florists.
Personally, I think it's a little silly to take the brides CP home and hope no one does that at my wedding.
If you want flowers at home, buy them yourself. Don't take my flowers!
What do you think?
ETA: I want 30 inch square vases that the florist is ordering just for me and I told him I'd return them after the wedding. If guests take them, then I'll have to be paying for each one.

Re: Do guests REALLY take the CP home???
I am not sure what type of flowers you are getting for those vases but I will be having calla lillies in a tall vase on each table at my wedding.
From what the florist told me, the guests cannot take home the vase b/c they are owned by the florist (unless I wanted to purchase them, which I did not) and the maitre'd will take the calla lillies out of the vase and wrap them individually for each woman at each table.
Personally, I do not want to take all those flowers home. I have no place for them and I have been to so many wedding where I was encouraged to take a cp and I like the idea of the guests taking home a piece of the cp.
HTH..
