Do I have to do a hotel block?

In this day and age where it's so easy to search on google for hotels near my venue, should I still do a hotel block?? I know there will be maybe 6 out of town guests coming..all who originated from Long Island and should know their way around!!

And I got a quote for a rate of $119 at a nearby Hilton. Is that a decent price?

Thanks :)

Re: Do I have to do a hotel block?

If I were you I would do it, it shouldn't cost you anything and if the rooms don't get booked they just release them a month out. It would be nice for the OOT guests to all be at the same hotel for convenience purposes.

Re: Do I have to do a hotel block?

I'm not sure about hotel prices for that time of year, maybe call one or 2 more just to compare.

Do I have to do a hotel block?

For only 6 guests, definitely don't waste your time. You could always put in the invite a list of nearby hotels that are available though. We used my cousin's hotel block but later realized if we had just booked the same hotel under my parents AAA we would have gotten the same room for less with a complimentary breakfast. Hotel blocks aren't always the best option for everyone so skip it.

Do I have to do a hotel block?

That's a great rate. I blocked off 10 rooms at the Viana, which was the maximum we could block off without having an obligation. It would be nice to give people an option at a discounted rate.

Re: Do I have to do a hotel block?

That is a good rate! Even with just 6 OOT guests, I would still do it - it saves them the trouble of having to find hotels in an area they might not be familiar with. I also just found out that some of the hotels we are considering will give us a free room if a certain number of rooms are used in our block, so if you're also staying in the hotel the night of your wedding, it's worth asking about :)

Do I have to do a hotel block?

it's not just about the out of towners, but also the bridal party, yourselves, anyone who might not want to drive home....

some hotels give you a % you have to get to for no $ responsibility. if you book one, ask a lot of questions!

yes! more of your non oot-ers will most likely wanna crash somewhere that night. the afterparty is the best part :)

also its one of those things thats just the right thing to do and can come off rude to your older guests, your not wasting any time or money by doing it

Do I have to do a hotel block?

We didn't bc there was $ involved if we didn't book enough of the rooms. I didn't like that. Our guests declined to stay at the Fox Hollow and I think decided on a Best Western down the road. We didn't block off rooms because no one ever mentioned bookings to us. They book I think the week or two before our wedding so it must have been a last minute thing. We didn't have any OOT family so it wasn't a priority for me and definitely not worth having to spend more money if the hotel wants a guarantee.

Re: Do I have to do a hotel block?

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I think I'm just going to suck it up and block 10 rooms...as many people pointed out, it won't cost me anything, so I might as well :)

i had my block at that best western, and would NOT suggest it to any other bride.

we had done the same thing your guests did before so we trusted that place since we already stayed there a few times before...never again
