Do I need to rent a car in Kauai?

I'm only staying in Kauai for 3 nights...do we need to rent a car???

Yes! There is no public transportation on Kauai, and if you want to go to other parts of the island, you have to drive. You could take cabs, but they are like $20 a pop, and since the car rentals are like $30 to $40 a day, it pays to rent.

We also stayed for three days at the Marriot in Lihue. We drove up to the Na'Pali coast, to Waimea canyon, and to our ATV tour. We used our car a lot. All I can say about our trip is I wish we had stayed there a week. It is so beautiful!

If you plan on just relaxing at your hotel, then you won't need the car. The hotels there are so gorgeous and have everything you need, so you don't really need to leave.

But if you like hiking, you'll want to go to Na'Pali.

I most def agree! You need a car unless you are just staying at the resort. There's not sooo much to see in Kauai though. We stayed at the Hyatt for 4 days and you don't need to leave there really for anything, but my hubby likes to explore and see things. We went to dinner a few times off the resort which we needed the car for, but like you, I didnt think we would really need one in Kauai. But if you want to see other beaches and stuff, I highly recommend it!
