I've honestly heard that proper etiquette doesn't require favors anymore . . . Just curious as to whether you think that's true?
Some weddings I've gone to have had them, but I've noticed that the biggest, fanciest weddings really didn't have favors!
What do you all think?

Re: Do people still do favors?
I personally wouldnt care either way if I went to a wedding and did or didnt recieve a favor.
But I can tell you I have NEVER been to a wedding, engagement party, shower, christening etc. and not recieved one.
In my fh's family you just HAVE to do favors.. its unheard of not too and I know quite a few people who would actually be annoyed if they didnt recieve one!

We're not doing favors, and we're planning on having a strictly black tie affair...but we are having a jewish wedding too, and at most jewish weddings there aren't favors, at least the ones I've been too..so I'm not sure about etiquette, just my experience....

I really don't think it's a big deal if you DON'T do favors but I do think that most people still do them. All of the weddings, showers, & even graduation parties I've been to lately still did favors.
I think it's a nice little 'thank you' for your guests.

Re: Do people still do favors?
I've heard of doing alternatives to favors (donations to charity) but I've never heard of NOT doing anything. My family would be pretty ticked off if they didn't get anything. My MOH who is jewish had boxes of godiva truffles as favors at her wedding.

I personally would love not to do them, I think they are a waste. However, You know what would happen if you didn't right? You would be the talk of the town. 'How did she not have any favors?!!!!!'
Some people go to weddings and really look forward to it, however if you don't want to, do a donation and a cute reusable placecard.

Re: Do people still do favors?
We're not doing favors...all the weddings that I have been to in the last year have gone the donation route...plus imo they are a waste of money (esp for us bc we're on a budget)
FH and I feel that it would be to hard to try and decide what we would be able to give out and everyone would use...
Anyway, I wanted to give a donation to the Cancer Society in memory of my father...
We might do something small that I can make myself to put some chocolate in or confetti (jordan almonds)

I agree we are donating and I'm going to make those wedding cake cookies to attach to the donation card.

Re: Do people still do favors?
I think most if not all the guests would be highly insulted if they attended your affair and gave a gift but didn't receive any form of favor. Whether or not they will use the favor given is another story which we will save for a later date.

Re: Do people still do favors?
thanks - Yea, it seems like everyone and their mother is doing the donation thing. I just haven't heard of that many people doing actual favors these days!
