Do presents mean as much when you pick them out yourself?
Original post by nov04LIbride
I was just thinking about this...I never give DH specifics about what I want, because I love to see what he picks out for me. Part of why I love getting presents from him is seeing what he thinks I need or would enjoy. How does everyone else feel about it? I know maybe I would get the perfect gift if I told him exactly what to get me, but it would lose meaning for me...

I'm with Shorty, I would rather just get really unexpected gifts but if we buy something for each other, we tell each other. Is funny, because regardless of how long we have been married, I don't think that he remembers my sizes. That's why we tell each other, although I know more about him. He has really bad memory.
LOL we both have notecards with each others sizes on it for that purpose!
I might have to start doing that then.

To me, no. It's always the thought that counts more than the actual gift. Yes, sometimes I will give DH suggestions and hope he chooses something from what I've hinted at and he does the same but we don't usually say 'I want this for my b-day, anniversary, etc'. And then buy exactly 'that'. It removes all thought from the gift giving process, if you ask me.
Yes, I like to be lazy too and ask DH to tell me exactly what he wants, but then I'll always get him a little something else he wasn't expecting, or something I thought he might like, otherwise I feel like really didn't get him a gift. And he does the same.

I agree, not to say that I never assist, but I always tell him to get me something - even if it's small- that I do not know about, because I love when he picks things out for me without my guidance!
