Do vendors return deposits if wedding is canceled?
Sadly, my wedding has been called off. My mother is currently dealing with the Watermill to see if she could recoup any of the money she paid so far. I have to start calling my vendors to see if I can get deposits back. That's all I paid into anything as of right now. Is it a lost cause or should I try?
My vendors are:
In The Mood DJ Sir Oliver Limo ADA Photography
I do not have copies of the contracts, my ex fiance does and we're not speaking to eachother right now... so I cant read what it says.

Typically, deposits are non-refundable. If you paid anything above and beyond the required deposits, that you may be able to get back.
As for the Watermill, if you can find someone to book your date, you can possibly get the deposit back. That's the rule of thumb with most catering halls.
I'm sorry to hear about your cancelling your wedding. But be happy it's done now, and not after you're married and unhappy.

I'm sorry! Unfortunately most Vendors do not give a refund, unless specified at booking (some give you a window to change your mind but its rare. The best you maybe able to get is a different day in the future like maybe the ability to use the DJ for a Family Party or Block Party one day in the future, so at least its not wasted. Just call them and try. Ya never know!

I think that if the hall is in Suffolk county then the hall is required to refund you most of what you paid, as long as it is more than 6 months in advance. They may give you a hard time, but do some research because I think it might be legally required (in Suffolk).

I went through this previously. Message me your e-mail address and I will email you the letter that you have to mail them certified signed mail. As long as it is 6 months prior and its Suffolk you get all your money back minus $100 from the caterer. I emailed, went in person and sent a letter certified mail.
