Do we have any wedding crashers??

Original post by Joyous1995

I crashed one last year. GIGI's has two weddings at a time and the other wedding was playing SALSA. LOVE IT!! Well, the other party were of the darker kind and me and my girlfriend the only whites in the room got caught on video tape. Trust me we stood out. Thank goodness the people were cool as hell b/c we were obviously busted. They invited us to stay for the rest of the wedding.

Response to below:

the darker kind meant darker than me. The whole point of bringing it up is that I was the ONLY WHITE LOOKING PERSON in the room. Hence, why I was spotted!!! I did not want to name any particular race b/c that is unimportant. If I had a problem with the race I wouldn't have crashed it and stay when they invited me.

I'm curious to know the kind...since when human beings are referred to as kinds white or black.

If you check she edited her original message to include a note.

I'm still not sure what to think. A better way of saying would have been maybe something like 'We stuck out worse than a sore thumb'

If she said Black or African American would have been FINE. Maybe they were Spanish, who knows. The darker kind should like something out of the twilight zone.

I dont know if I should chalk this up as she doesnt know any better. But if I said I was offended be apologetic. Even if you dont mean it!

White looking, thats new too. If anything try to respect others here. Even if you don't want to, freakin TRY!!! Sooooooooooo now your kinda white? Anyway, no use crying over spilled milk. Your very unappologetic, and it's NOT tolerated in a forum of many ethnicities and races. There are some self help books on proper etiquette. I'll pick one up for ya. Have a beautiful day!!!

Yes, I agree that the wording was odd and I agree it was a bit of foot in mouth. But I think we are blowing this out of proportion.

The wording was a bit off but to be blowing it out of proportion is not fair to say...people were offended and spoke thier mind on the comment, and if noone said anything she would continue to say insensitive things, now maybe in such a public forum she may learn to say politically correct things.

I agree! One of the worst things you can say to someone that is upset or offended is that they are blowing it out of proportion or calm down.

That is rule of thumb. Joyous add that one to your list of things to be learned.

I understand that the poster should have used a different choice of words, but some people become more offended easier than others. Just remember not everyone you will meet in life has the social abilities that you may have and some people are just plain stupid. Just try to accept the differences and lets hope that some will use this as a learning experience. Now onward with the wedding planning girls!!!

This is not directed specifically to the person who made the last post, but, I really hate it when someone does something racially insensitive and people object to it, that their feelings get pushed to the side or they are silenced by other people telling them that things are getting blown out of proportion. What she said is offensive, period.

Since people of color are often the butt of these kinds of comments it may seem to some that we blow things out of proportion, but, if someone would just stop and think about how it feels to deal with 'foot in mouth' syndrome on a regular basis, you would understand why people are quite sensitive to such ignorance.

Her recent attempt to edit the post does not improve that offensive comment that she has left above for all to read. She needs to further edit her post.

When did it become taboo to identify things as they are. If you stuck out like a sore thumb because everyone else is the room was black or African American or Latino, then just say that. If I was the only black girl in a room full of white people, then I would just say that. If people are offended because you mention a race other than your own then that's just silly. It doesn't matter when you say race was unimportant, it seems as if you felt uncomfortable saying black or african american or latino and that to me seems weird.

On a different note-I've recently heard that wedding crashers have become so commonplace since the movie came out that people have actually setup a couple place cards as 'Mr. & Mrs. Wedding Crasher'.

Good for a laugh, but I don't think I would do that.

hahaahaha! dont think i will be doing that either - but that is soo funny!!
although - i wouldnt mind crashing a wedding at watermill ....
